David Wright: Phillies Are Team To Beat

David Wright, in an interview with Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News, said his Mets were still behind in the NL East, as long as the Phillies are division champs.
“The team to beat in my eyes is the team that won last year. Philadelphia took care of us last year. They took care of business in the division. Going into this year, we have to take control again of the NL East.”
Not much else was really said by Wright, only that he thinks acquiring Johan Santana means the ghosts of 2007 have flown. We’ll see about that. It takes a lot to erase a giant collapse.
I respect Wright and consider him one of baseball’s best hitters. And yeah, I’d have him on the Phillies any day. For Wright to consider the Phillies the team to beat is high praise from him, and it’s good to hear him say that the Phils contributed just as much to the division win as the Mets’ collapse.

I DO NOT TRUST DAVID WRIGHT! HE IS SLICK AND I KNOW THAT HE DOESN’T LIKE THE PHILLIES. IF HE WOULD ONLY CLEAN UP HIS MOUTH. AT THE 2006 ALL STAR GAME HE WAS HEARD TO SAY SOME CHOICE WORDS AFTER HE LOST TO THE GREAT RYAN HOWARD IN HOME RUN DERBY. DO NOT TRUST DAVID WRIGHT!!!!!!!

alphonso are you retarded ? please quote what he said after the home run derby. and who gives a crap about the HR derby anyway ? DW is a class act and a budding superstar, and not a loud mouth like rollins. P.S. if you guys think ryan howard is worth 10 mill, We’d be glad to give him 20. we need a first baseman next year. nice blog dude.

I’m still high after the Giants won the superbowl so I’m still not fully in baseball mode yet. I still have images of brady get spanked. and Eli the real deal Manning.
But I’m really hoping for one thing though and its a long shot, I wish Ryan Howard gets pissed and eventually becomes a free agent. Eventhough you guys play in a little league size park, I saw him hit some bombs at spacious shea off the scoreboard so the guys a beast. and NY will pay whatever it takes to get him.

Tim,
You’re right on the mark. I’ll just add that Wright said what he said to fire up his team, just as Jimmie did last season and now with his 100 win promise. Check out my comments on http://www.blogging-baseball.com

Considering Ryan Howard cannot be a free agent until 2011 and you do not have a minor league system anymore I don’t think the Phils will trade you Ryan Howard. And here is where your NY arrogance comes in, why on Earth would we trade him to our main rival? What makes you think that we are still a second class team and we would arm the Mets with the greatest HR hitter in the game today?
Classic NY arrogance in that you think you are the only freakin teams in the league. You were probably a Yankee fan when they were dominating baseball and became a Met fan last Thursday. You are ridiculous and a complete arrogant p*ick for having the stuck up audacity to think we are going to trade you Ryan Howard.
At least Rollins can back up what he predicted in freaking January. Your budding superstars, Wright and Reyes went into prolonged slumps when it counted last year and CHOKED. Wright and Reyes should be endorsing Robitussin.
And I love how all the Mets fans who are always arrogant to start coming to our site and trashing us because you picked up Santana. What is that all about? Where were you when your team choked?
Get the heck off of our site unless you possess the character to ackowledge us when we do something better than you instead of just coming on here when you think you are good.

Hey Matt no one said they wanted Ryan Howard in a trade. Better sharpen up on your reading skills a little better buddy. He said the Mets will pay him what he wants when he becomes a free agent. The Phillies dont want to lock up one of the best young hitters in the game rite now when they have the chance , so what makes you think they will do it in 2011?

You are right, I did mis-read it but still. I get sick and tired of the NY Arrogant attitude the fans have. And then they come onto our site and start bragging like they won the WS when they didn’t win anything last year.
The NY arrogance is alive and well and alot of people think we are a second rate city. Yes, our sports history pales in comparasion and our baseball owners don’t seem to care about the fans but it drives me nuts listening to their suggestions and how they can pay better.
Who knows, maybe Ryan Howard will be the next Mo Vaughn by 2011, so if he is, take him and pay him a king’s ransom!

Dude,
Did you read what I wrote. He’ll never be traded. but Im hoping he somehow becomes a Free Agent. What was so arrogant about what I said. Listen I know there’s a lot of Arrogance in NY (mostly from Yankees fans) but why does philly have an inferiority complex with NY ? Im a diehard Mets fan, and I die hard baseball fan. Rowand and Utley were two guys I like a lot on your team. There is a lot of NY arrogance but seriously other cities sure do have a complex. And seriously, who would jump on the Mets bandwagon now ? Did you see what we did last year ?

Alright so I just re-read some of the posts, now either you guys are being tormented by NY’ers or you guys can’t read because there’s some serious beef in here. In any case, I do acknowledge what the phils did. We collapsed and You guys stepped it up. Both had to happen so yes you’re the better team. actually they match up really well. It’ll be the second best competition after yanks/sox but hopefully a great rivalry will start up again.
