The Kyle Lohse sweepstakes (for lack of a better term) is over, as the Cardinals inked him today to a one-year contract. The deal is pending a physical.

Last season for the Phillies, Lohse went 3-0 with a 4.72 ERA after being traded for AA prospect Matt Maloney. The Phillies offered Lohse a 3-year deal worth over $20MM, but he declined it. Lohse is represented by agent Scott Boras.

More to come, including the one-year monetary figure.

He could have got better with the Phils, but he got greedy.

Honestly, I think (rather ‘hope’) the Phils will be OK with Kris Benson whenever he is ready. Benson has a much better upside to him compared to Lohse. Whether Kendrick repeats his success or not will truly be the barometer that measures if we missed out on Lohse or not.

When you’re broke, you bend over and pick up the pennies in the gutter.

Lohse isn’t the second coming of Cy Young, but a league-average veteran with playoff experience is better than what what the Phillies are serving up.

Maybe Rosario will grab hold of that fifth starter’s bone. Maybe Eaton will be revisited by the same aliens who stole his mojo. Maybe Carrasco will make two years progress in just two months. Maybe Benson will shock the world and remind Anna why she married him.
