^Golson is in minor league camp and will most likely start at AA this season. He has to work on striking out less and walking more before he gets to the majors.

What is the deal w/ Greg Golson, he seemed to be off to a good start this spring but then fell off the radar. I looked all over and cant find any indication that he left camp for a minor league team?? Any word?

Tim, I wanted to commend you on this list. It’s solid. With Coste as the presumed backup catcher, there’s a rotation spot and three releivers left. Those, of course, could be anybody. Anybody but Eaton, that is…

Exactly my point…Brett Myers was comfortable as a starter, and got moved to the bullpen where we needed him. If he’s cappable, and fits the spot better than most, why not go with it? I’m just hypothetically speaking however. Hopefully we grab a reliable starter with-in the next 2 weeks, and we don’t need to discuss any other possibilities.

Madsen is possibly the most underrated long relief guy in the NL. Don’t make him a starter. He’s a great kid with an explosive arm and a shaky psyche. If he’s comfy and effective where he is, leave him there. He fills a need. Why play with it?

I think Ryan Madson might get another shot this year as a starting pitcher unless we sign a definite starter like re-signing Loshe. I know Madson didn’t work out in the past, but this is a whole new year, and hes proved before he can go atleast 5 innings. It would just make much more sense.

Your list rings true for the most part. 12 Pitchers for sure.

Eaton should open the season on the DL. Chad will probably win the Durbin Duel, leaving JD dangling on waivers.

Blackley will make the bullpen and start games when a hole opens in the rotation. Chad will be the first of many 5th starters.

Rosario will make it in the pen and may also start games. Condrey may or may not slip through waivers into AAA.

It will be a tight race for the last lefty in the pen. Unless Darensbourg impresses, either Youman, Happ or Castro should make the team. Probably Youman, since the others can be starters at AAA and prepare for a call-up.

I see Benson in extended Spring Training and also give Blackley the slightest of an edge in the 5th spot, with Chad Durbin nipping at his heels.

Ahh, I contradicted myself in my comment, thanks dan.

Going by my grand list, the Phils would carry 14 position players and 11 pitchers. That’s unusual; it will likely be 13 and 12, meaning all that’s needed now is a back-up catcher and four pitching spots (fifth starter, long man, lefty, righty). That would correspond with my comment.

And Benson would probably take out one of the position players (Golson, Bruntlett, Taguchi) or the last pitcher (Durbin or Youman).

Chad Durbin winning that spot doesn’t comfort me much more than having Eaton in there. I know this is all at the moment, but where is Benson going to fit in there when he’s good to go?

I was being realistic about Savery, knowing he wouldn’t be on the roster. But his numbers are: 3 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 3 K.

My bullpen, at the moment:
Lidge, Romero, Gordon, Madson, Rosario, Youman, Blackley

My rotation:
Hamels, Myers, Kendrick, Moyer, Chad Durbin

Eaton just gave up a fourth run. Christ. I don’t know if it’s physical, mental, leg, spiritual, psychological or a heart attack, I want him out.

What about Savery’s stats? I know he’s not going to be on the roster…..but…..

I’ve been impressed with Outman, Savery, Blackley, Happ, and Rosario. Who do you think will end up in the pen?

Kyle Kendrick is not a lock since he has options left. I’m rooting for him, but if he has a bad spring training while at least 2 other starting pitchers among Eaton, Benson, Blackley, JD Durbin, and a few others have good springs then it will be a numbers game that Kendrick will lose. In my opinion, only Hammels, Myers, and Moyer have starting pitching roles assured regardless of how they pitch in spring training.
