The Phillies offered Lincoln Holdzkom back to the Red Sox, but the Sox rejected him, making him a free agent. This Spring, Holdzkom pitched 3.1 innings while giving up three hits and two runs. He walked four and struck out three.

The Phils can sign Holdzkom to a Minor League deal, if they so choose, and it wouldn’t be a bad idea. Pitching depth is never bad, especially in the Phillies’ case.

Game update: Reds lead 1-0 through 2 1/2. Scott Hairston hit a home run off Ryan Madson, who has also given up two other hits and a walk. He has struck out one. The Phils haven’t garnered a hit yet off Bronson Arroyo. Live box score.
