It is a great story, I highly recommend it for any baseball/Phillie fan. Go out and buy it next week.

Just a random note to all: I was able to get a copy of the Chris Coste book early, and finished it in about 1 day. Here's what they got from the 5th starter spot last year:29 GS | 161.2 INN | 5.12 ERA | 1.527 WHIPThat's pretty pathetic. I'd think almost anyone they throw out there could beat those numbers. If you're wondering, I got those numbers by going through all the games on www.fangraphs.com and looking at who started in the 5th rotation spot when it was used. Here's who I had making those starts:
Eaton - 12 GS
Lohse - 10 GS
JD Durbin - 5 GS
Moyer - 1 GS
Segovia - 1 GSIf you ask me, Madsen or Castro or Benson or just about any of the candidates (except Eaton) should be able to better those numbers.

I don’t see what the all the fuss is over the 5th starter. No trade has been made and he implies the Mets wouldn't want Crisp: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/03/coco-crisp-to-t.htmlBut the Mets already have Endy Chavez, who plays very good defense. Yes, Crisp is better offensively, but if they're going to want A) replacement for Alou, B) platoon for Church and C) fourth outfielder when all are healthy, they need more than Crisp.

Over at MLB Trade Rumors, there’s a link to a David Lennon (Newsday beat writer) blog post. Maybe Castro or Blackley could take his spot in the bullpen.

Romero 2007 performance against righties warrants him an opportunity as a 5th starter in my opinion. However, it is not official.

It is more than a “rumbling” it is being reported that this deal is almost inevitable by WFAN. Tim they are dumping Pagan who is nothing special, for Coco who plays Gold Glove Defense. He is an insurance policy against Beltran. he can also pinch run. Personally I think he is Michael Born with better defense. The deal is good for both teams.

Angle Pagan is a back up centerfielder. Trading an outfielder for an outfielder? They obviously need to fill an outfield hole, but why trade one to fill it? This doesn't make sense.

Nobody else is reporting that; MLB Trade Rumors is saying it’s a “rumbling.” And why would the Mets do this?
