Speaking of heart, we lost a big chunk of it when Rowland left. Not sure who picks up that torch, but we are going to need it. But, isn’t it about team we Philly fans get some kind of break (if there is such a thing), like maybe Adam Eaton somehow, someway say 14-8 4.10 era. Now that would go a long way to wins in the mid 90′s!!!

It all starts tomorrow! GO PHILLIES!!

Greg: I agree with everything you’re saying. Gillick did a masterful job (I like “tourniquet and gauze”) during the season. And this team still has plenty of heart (more than any team in baseball, I believe, though how can you measure that?) That’s why I still feel optimistic. That’s why I still think this team can easily win 100 games or win the division or whatever.

And you raise a good point right about the predictability of this team. The Abreu deal, to me, was the most important thing this franchise has done since 1993.

I’m with you. I really am. And I thank you fans for being the voice of optimism right now.

P.S. -the Phils stopped becoming predictable when they dumped Abreu and effectively ushered in their new generation of leadership.

I only hope the players don’t let a less than stellar Spring showing quench their optimism and energy like the negative-Nancy fans in the Philadelphia area.
A lot rests on Myers and Hamels, if they can be the one-two that they are capable of, we can and will have a great season. I’m getting tired of the nay-sayers citing Kendrick, Moyer, and Romero as obvious holes. The nagging what-ifs are already being counted as failures, and thats ridiculous.
You forget the magnificent job Gillick did with his ‘tourniquet and gauze’ patchwork last year and that only 2 of 6 SP candidates put in serviceable seasons.
While you can credit management for pulling those stopgap moves, it was the attitude of the team that allowed guys like Kendrick, Burrell, Alfonseca, and Romero to step it up and contribute like they did. This team showed an incredible amount of character last year, and made the big step from also-ran to winners. We lost Rowand as part of that character, but everyone else on the roster has now made that important step, too and we will be better off for it.
I’m not assigning number guess-timates on predictions of wins because thats stupid, and I’m glad the Mets look better on paper this year, because it will make it that much sweeter when we finish ahead of both them and the Braves.

Let’s go, Phils.

Oh I know we overcame injuries, which I cite, but this year the weight seems to be too heavy. Like I said, I hope I’m wrong. I really do.

one thing you seem to forget. we had a TON of injuries last year and still won 89 games or so. With the same healthy pitching that puts us a little closer to a hundred
