Gameday: Cubs (6-5) At Phillies (6-6)

Cole Hamels was dealing for a third consecutive start, and the righties did their damage, leading to a clean 7-1 win over the Cubs. It was the first Phillies series win, and they can sweep the set today at the Vault.
Hamels was fantastic, going seven frames and allowing one hit. Pedro Feliz knocked a homer and Chase Utley and Ryan Howard both finally beat Ted Lilly — the former with a jam-shot double and the latter with a towering homer.
Now it’s Jamie Moyer going up against the team that drafted him four months before I was born. Jason Marquis goes against the Phils. Jimmy Rollins is likely to sit this one again, Shane Victorino is on the 15-day DL and Chris Snelling is on the 25-man roster, available today. With all the juggling at the top of the order, Geoff Jenkins will hit leadoff for the first time in his career.
Phillies: Jamie Moyer (1-0), 4.66 ERA
Cubs: Jason Marquis (0-0), 6.75 ERA
Gametime: 1:35 p.m.
Weather: 55 degrees, mostly sunny
Lineup: Jenkins/Werth/Utley/Howard/Burrell/Feliz/Coste/Bruntlett/Moyer

Your gameday beer: With the old-school Moyer on the hill, a Midwestern team in town, and a few tough injuries hampering the team, on this dreary Sunday, nothing will taste sweeter than an old favorite, Pabst Blue Ribbon. Don’t be fooled — PBR is a good beer. It’s smoother and tastier than any macrobrew out there, and you can drink a few today, because, hey, we may need it.
Go Phillies!

Looks like another non-comcast blackout – this time on TBS. Not sure what’s going on here, but that’s two so far this season.

2 national TV games in one week!? Wow, I am a happy California Phillies fan! And I have to say, I love the new uniforms!

2 Bases loaded situations and only one run, not good. now moyer lets in a run. i still dont know how he even can get anybody out, its totally amazing that people swing at some of that garbage that he throws.

What is wrong with these hitters? Moyer should be knocked out before the third inning in every single start he makes. its embarrassing that: 1 they continue to send him out there and dont have one more starter that can take his spot in the rotation, and 2 the opposing hitters dont mash on him every time.

What an awful call. Honestly for a HR and other things, baseball needs an instant replay. Needs it. This is ridiculous. If the Phillies lose by one run now, it’s absurd.

Wow, this is horrible. Baseball really needs to get its act together on replay.

I will be so angry if we don’t win this game. That ball was so foul; I could tell the first time that it was foul!

Tom Gordon? This is an unbelievable decision. Where is JC Romero? I don’t like the looks of this at all.

Thanks for putting those guys on base, Flash. What a joke. Why the hell do we keep using this bum?

Charlie makes no bones about the fact that he isnt happy with their staff or bullpen and that they should have gotten more arms in teh offseason. Now theyre gathering 35 year olds and over for the pen. But hell put them in there and say hey, this is what you gave me and this is what youll get.
another error? what the heck? this has to stop. they have to lead the league in errors and runners left on base.

We most likely will lose this game b/c of a ridiculous umpire call first and foremost, but Howard made 2 terrible plays at first base (not scooping the ball, or at least getting in front of it). i realize the throws were low, but major league first baseman absolutely have to catch those. in fact, single a first basemen absolutely have to catch those.

We lost by one run because of the controversial home run. Discuss.

There is nothing to discuss except that I’m really pissed off now! And don’t call it a home run because it clearly was not.

We lost twice this week thanks to the guys in blue. And yes, you can blame them for losses, especially our loss today. Reyes was clearly out at home in New York, and that wasn’t a home run. Something needs to be done about this.

It’s ridiculous; I hope we’re not looking back at these calls in September and lamenting about how they ultimately cost us our season. But no worries, they won’t!! =)

I was hoping for a sweep of the Cubs and the Phils on the plus side of .500
But, as usual, Tom Gordon couldn’t hold a lead. As Meredith used to say on Monday Night Football, stick a fork in Gordon, he’s done. The sooner they realize, the better.

Not much since dwelling on the pitching staff….we obviously did not need any, or we would have made an full effort to sign Lohse, when he lowered his price and signed for 4.2…..instand reply is a must for baseball….remember last year when we lost a game because Utley hit a game winning home-run that was ruled foul by BLUE????

2 years ago…quite possibly cost us the wild card.

Sure blue is to blame, but the little things ultimately cost the Phils in this one.

They need to bring instant replay into baseball to make it a fair ballgame on both ends of the bench, because that call was bullshit! That shouldn’t go under as a lose. I actually heard MLB was talking about instant replay in the off season. I hope they pass it with-in the next few years
