Phils Can’t Overcome Barajas’ Power

That’s a headline I thought I’d never write.

The Blue Jays catcher gave an ol’ FU to his former team, hitting two home runs — a grand slam and a solo shot — driving in five of the six Blue Jay runs in a 6-3 win over the Phillies. The slam was all Adam Eaton surrendered, though he gave up eight hits and two walks in his five innings. Eaton is still missing the mark, and while four runs against can keep the offense in the game, it’s not appreciated, especially when Barajas is the one doing the dirty work. Poor performance again by Eaton, who is losing his grip on a starting spot again.

The Phils climbed back into the game, making it 4-3 thanks to Jimmy Rollins and Greg Dobbs. The former had three hits, including a two-RBI double that scored Dobbs and Shane Victorino to make it 4-3. Dobbs had two hits, including an RBI double that scored Geoff Jenkins. Rollins, Dobbs and Jenkins had all the hits against AJ Burnett, Aramando Benitez, Scott Downs and BJ Ryan.

On the flip side, Chase Utley poorly swung on the first offering by Burnett with the bases loaded, grounding one out to end a rally that generated from Burnett’s missed control, all with two outs. Ryan Howard couldn’t deliver with men on, as well, and struck out three times. Maybe he’s not back — it’s getting absolutely frustrating for fans.

Usually the Phils try to pick up Eaton when he struggles, which is almost all the time. This time, however, it wasn’t in the cards.

It’s time to swap Chad Durbin and Adam Eaton.

Headline should read “Phils can’t overcome Eaton’s pitching.”

Really, it’s time for a change, I don’t care how much we have invested in him. It’s all about winning, and unfortunately Eaton is not the answer.

In the 9th innning, Howard dropped a throw that would have been the third out. Instead, the runner on 2nd did not hesitate to score as Ryan seemed to relish in his anguish.
Very poor play – and instead of Howard focusing in on rectifying his error, he put his head down. Utley got to the ball (that was mere feet from Ryan) before Ryan did but the throw to the plate was off and the runner scored.
Utley, Howard and Burrell 0 for 11. Werth batting second was 0 for 2 – the entire muscle and middle of your lineup was 0 for 13. You cannot expect to win much with that.
Once again by the 5th inning the Phils had but 1 hit -

Brooks, it’s simple – the Phillies are not a good team right now.

Rod Barajas is not a quality backup catcher. His burgaling of the phillies on saturday night isn’t nearly what I would dole out if I returned to the bank
