i’ll take away the RBI stats if you take away the batting average. in the pursuit of originality, i guess. deal? i mean you’ve harped on that more days straight than espn has the rbi’s.

Utley wouldn’t win the triple crown or even 1/3 of it. I mean that by no disrespect. Utley is arguably the best player in baseball right now. Howard will have the most RBI’s and homers. I know how much we all hate him, but those are the breaks. Chipper will have the highest average.

Is it okay to point out that Howard is actually leading the NL in RBI’s over the last 30 days with 33. And that’s with Utley being right behind him, often clearing the bases with with 31 RBI’s.

My point of view on Howard is we pay him to be a run producer, not a triple crown threat. He’s never gonna hit 300 again. The league has adjusted to him in that regard. He’s a .260 – 280 hitter tops. So he’s got a ways to go to get there. But as far as the run production, to have only his teamate, and two other players in league ahead of him. THAT’s what we pay him to do.

There is DEFINITELY something special about this team. Tim Malcolm concurs with the thought that I have; that not in my 60 years on this earth and my 50 years as a cognizant Phillies fan, have I seen a Phillies team score 20 runs twice in a season, let alone twice in 17 days. Everyone recalls that they pulverized the Rockies and then went on a 45 run 3 game spree sweeping the Rox. Hopefully, they haven’t burned out the offense this time and that we see another Phillies sweep. 43-28 would look awfully good headed home to play the Red Sox.

Werth and Bruntlett being there in Rollins abscence only makes Howards rbi totals more impressive.

I’m not saying he’s on his way back at all. I’m just saying he’s not playing as terribly as people here want to make it out to be. You want to focus on his poor stats being the k’s and batting average, thats fine. But look at the whole picture and realize he’s still on pace for over 40 home runs and well over 100 rbis. I just don’t see the point in burying the guy (especially a potent run producer), or anyone on the team after a 20-2 win with, “Yeah, but’s!!!!” It’s just silly to me.

scot remember werth was there and bruntlett…rollins hasnt slumped till lately. i never once said he was shit but he is playing like shit. i just find it funny that you guys are saying hes on his way back after 1 game. thats the only thing im arguing is that you need to see more than 1 game to officially call someone back after hes fooled us numerous times this season.

Scot actually just made a convincing argument. I still think Pat the Bat should be clean up though. Look at his numbers with RISP. also he has 42 RBI’s would be way higher if he was batting 4th.

Chris, you seem to rest pretty easily.

Rollins OBP is 340, Vic, 350, and Utley 404.

Let’s look at the Mets. Reyes 350, Castillo 347, Wright 366.

Not a huge differential. By your standards, the Mets shouldn’t still be searching for a cleanup guy to come close to Howard’s RBI output, but they are.

The reason of course being that Howards numbers improve with RISP. And of course the fact that he isn’t as shit as you are trying to make him out to be.

BRUCE, howards rbi numbers are bc rollins utley and victorino. you say thats what table setters are for? then why doesnt everyones cleanup hitter have more rbi’s then howard bc all their averages are better? bc we have the BEST table setters and thats the reason a .212 hitter has so many rbi’s. my piont rested.
