I agree with you Tim, I never liked the fan vote. As a mets fan I love David Wright. I am glad as hell Chipper Jones is leading the vote though why? Simply because he deserves it. It’s about who is playing good this season/now. Fans are way to biased. My favorite player of all time is griffey jr, i’m happy for him and all but no way should he be starting in the all star game, it’s ridiculous.

As far as mets are concerned I really feel like Church has at least earned strong consideration, and Billy Wagner clearly deserves a spot. Santana as well, thats it.

Nate McLouth is like 13th in voting.. Rowand isn’t on the list… Griffey, Beltran…are top 5??? Its a joke… the AL isn’t much better, with the entire Red Sox team being voted to start… along with A-Rod and Jeter.. who, injured or not… haven’t had the best 1st half so far..

At least they are starting to get it right with Josh Hamilton moving up to a starter spot in the AL… but no TB RAYS on there yet??? I seriously think the fans should get to vote, but the players, managers, owners, whoever should pick the starters.. and the fans should only get to select like 5-10 players…or none…. most people only know what they see on sportscenter.. which is Mets, Cubs, Yankees, Red Sawks, etc..

The NL fans should be voting for who is best right now, not who is their favorite players on their favorite teams. Fucking assholes. We haven’t won an all-star game in 12 years because retards keep voting for Bonds and Griffey eventhough they have been old and washed up for a few years now. I’m not bashing Griffey, but why is that guy #3 in votes? There are many players more deserving of his position in the outfield like AARON ROWAND. That guy isn’t even in the top 15 and he’s got a .333 BA with 8 homers and 36 RBI’s on a horrible Giants team. 36 RBI’s is pretty good considering how bad they are. He’s also a great fielder. Pat Burrell is also more deserving, he’s having a great year. Even Church is deserving, and I think he’s more deserving than Beltran is, but Beltran will be in the all-star game.

Playing over his head or not, Church should definitely be considered for an outfield spot. Don’t think he’ll get it, however, as Xavier Nady, Ryan Ludwick and Nate McLouth could find their ways onto the team along with Fukudome, Griffey, Soriano and maybe Burrell.

See, that’s the problem with fan voting. You need to make room for players on teams with maybe one representative at best, so good players on teams with multiple reps get hosed. This all because Cub fans want their players in the game.

I think Pat the Bat will make his 1st well deserved all-star appearance. He should have made it back in 02 when he had his break out year. Pat the Bat is only going to get better as the season goes on. Back in September last year I was saying to a friend that Pat the Bat is going to be a contributor to this team winning games. He’s going to bat about .280 hit about 40 homers and have about 120 RBIs and he’ll make the all-star team. My friend told me that was the dumbest thing he’s ever heard. Now he’s like dude, your prediction is going to come true. I can’t believe it. I also predicted the Phillies to win 98 games and be running with the east by June. Let’s see if I’m psychic or not. I think it’s pretty safe to say that my Burrell prediction is going to come true assuming he doesn’t get hurt.

For some reason, Rollins doesn’t get much love nationally. I can’t believe the reigning mvp is getting so little support. He’s been in a slump, but I think he can get in if he catches fire. I don’t think Hamels deserves to go. And I think Lidge is as much a lock as any reliever. 14/14!

I don’t think Lidge will make the all-star team because he’s in the shadow of Wagner and Velverde, which is total crap because Lidge is the only closer in the NL that is undefeated. Burrell will finally make his 1st all star game and I’m excited for him. Hamels will get in from manager/player votes because he’s well respected and feared.

As far as Phils all-stars, I’d go with Utley, Lidge, Burrell and maybe Hamels (I could see him getting in on the manager/player votes). Rollins is a close fifth.

Has to be one of the dumbest statements I’ve heard on these boards. Do you not see Utley’s HRs? These babies are not flyouts that land in the flower bed b/c of CBP. He is a line drive hitter who hits absolute bullets. Almost every player is more comfortable hitting at home (hitting is largely mental, and being comfortable at the plate is huge) than on the road. If anything if he played at home in a different ballpark he’d hit a ton more doubles and triples. Quite simply he’s the best hitter in MLB right now.

.295 avg with 5 homers in 105 ABs is nothing to scoff at. I think Utley does a lot better in CBP because of the crowd. IF you ever watch the homers he’s hitting in CBP they’re mostly all way deeper than the fence, and a lot of them are in right center which is pretty deep.

I am a die-hard fan but Utley does NOT deserve all these votes. His Home/Away splits are just to big. When will we agree CBP inflates all our hitters numbers? What Hamels is doing is 10x more amazing than Utley. If Utley played in a different stadium – except Coors or Great American – he’d be a average ball player. Hamels is an ace no matter where, and would be more-so if played in a different stadium.

Utley is batting like .295 on the road, has hit only 5 HRs in 105 ABs and his OPS is like different by .200 points.
