the daily news has Gillick saying that they move someone on the current roster for a pitcher. Who do you all think he’s thinking about? An outfeilder? Dobbs?

I’ve been looking at the schedule. It doesn’t get much easier after this. I mean straight through the all star break we play very good teams.

I really think the key date is July 7th. If we can get out of that series vs the Mets with a division lead of 4 or 5 games over the Mets and Braves, then I think we may have survived our rough patch. Of course, that isn’t gonna be easy at all. The Mets are resurgent and have much more pitching than us, and the Braves will run off a streak at some point.

The team has got to pull itself back together.

Mike, I defended you when people started name-calling in your direction. Now, you’re doing the name calling. I’d really hate for this to degenerate into the forums on FoxSports.com, where no one argues sports. They just hurl invective.

Don’t tell us we’re clueless. Tell us what specifically is wrong with the “infrastructure” in your opinion that makes this a bad baseball team. You’ve been harping on this for like two months. Give us the analysis before you start calling all of us clueless.

Mike, I wouldn’t call anyone else clueless. You’re the one who is not seeing beyond a slump. The majority of the year they’ve been playing outstanding ball and have one of the best offenses in the game. It’s just a rough patch right now in a long season. Obviously the holes in the rotation are seemingly bigger than one would have imagined starting out. But I’d rather be one starter away from being a great team and two starters away from being an outstanding team, rather than have no core whatsoever. The Phillies are built to win now and are one of the most exciting teams out there to watch. The fact that they’ve done so well with such a questionable rotation shows that.

Amanda, you need to look at the infrastructure in order to tell they’re not a good baseball team. That’s the problem with clueless fans – you see the game and base your opinion on the things that are easily visible. You can’t do that, you need to go beyond “slumps”.

ok not that i agree were playing good at all because were not .. & i was at this game tonite and it was pretty brutal to watch, but its called a slump, its a 162 game season, every team goes into slumps, in the beginning of the year the red sox lost 7 games in a row, do they suck? are the the worst? no its called baseball..mwere not going to win every game/series. Yes I agree we do need to change some things if were going to win anything in the playoffs but comeon everyone its june!

Hey, did it occurred to anyone that Johan…. err… Ervin Santana was not only dominant tonight with electric stuff against the Phillies but he had the same kind of success against other clubs this season (9-3)?

While Utley’s hitless streak continues (0 for 23), he did hit the ball hard a few times including a sac fly for one RBI.

Manuel is considering giving Utley his overdue day off with this comment:
“It might be time to give him a rest,â€ Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said of Utley, who has started every game.”

Here’s an interesting little fact that Utley could take encouragement from:

In 1958 Richie Ashburn won his second batting title (the other in 1955; .338 BA) with a .350 BA. During that season he went through 28 consecutive at bats without a hit (0-28)!

Tonight was one of those games where I had a bad taste in my mouth at the end. Last Friday was a success because the whole team played well. Tonight was a failure because the whole team played poorly. Nobody did anything to write home about except a fairly decent 9th inning from J.C. Romero.

I think it will take a drop to 2nd place for the phils to get back to normal but we shall see. I would rather not see that happen.
