Gamenight: Phillies (39-26) At Marlins (34-29)

After a day off, the Phillies will try to lengthen their lead in the National League East with the first of three games against the Marlins in Miami. It’s a crucial series for both teams — the Marlins want to remain close to the Phils in the East; the Phils would love nothing more than to have a gigantic lead in the division.
Brett Myers will try to build off his specatcular performance against the Reds last week. For those who remember, Myers took a no-hitter into the seventh inning Wednesday night before losing it, and the game. Luckily Ricky Nolasco isn’t Edinson Volquez, but Nolasco did beat the Phillies this year (6.1 IP, 2 ER).
Shortstop Hanley Ramirez has been hot for the Fish. He has 15 hits and five home runs in his last 11 games.
Phillies: Brett Myers (3-7) 5.13 ERA
Marlins: Ricky Nolasco (5-4) 5.05 ERA
Gametime: 7:10 p.m. EST
Weather: 79, scattered storms
Lineup: Rollins, Victorino, Utley, Howard, Burrell, Jenkins, Dobbs, Coste, Myers

Your gamenight beer: So today Snoop Dogg tells Jay-Z and Beyonce to make babies. Thanks, Snoop. In your honor, I recommend Doggie Style Classic Pale Ale by Flying Dog. It’s a simple American Pale Ale, robust and clean. Everybody sing it with me: “One, two, three and to the four, Snoop Doggy Dogg and Doctor Dre is at ya door.”
Go Phillies!

It’s kind of sad, but yesterday’s day off was like a gloomy day because the Phils weren’t playing (especially considering the momentum we had going). Can’t wait for this one to begin!

I agree Lewisauce. I was sitting around like, what do I do tonight? It’s Monday, I can’t go anywhere to drink with friends really because Monday’s are lame. The Phillies aren’t playing, what am I supposed to do with my night?! I am counting down the minutes.

News update: Phils signed 8 draft picks including Anthony Gose, the OF/P who can throw 97. The blurb is below the Gameday post.

Rollins is bound to get hot. This will be the series he does it. A hot Rollins and a hot Utley>>>>>>>>>>a hot Uggla and a hot Hanley.

“…ready to make an entrance so back on up” classic song.
Joshua: I also have a bad feeling about this series. No way Florida sweeps us though, so at the worst I see them picking up one game. The Phillies are really going to be tested over the next month and a half or so, hopefully they can continue winning series’ with maybe a sweep here and there. It’s been over 2 full days since the last Phils game, I’m dying to see them back on the field.

was gose drafted as a P or OF?

Drafted as an OF, who happens to throw 97 MPH lefty. Sounds weird , but true. Apparently he’s got some above average speed and plays a good outfield, I’ve seen comparisons to Juan Pierre and Corey Patterson.

i dont mind pierre but noboys want patterson!!!!! plus pierre doesnt have an arm but this guy has to if he could throw 97. if hes like patterson put him as a pitcher though!

Well those comparisons are just based on his offense and how his power develops. If he develops into more of a power hitter they compared him to Patterson. If it doesn’t develop he’d be more like Pierre, spraying line drives and batting for average.

Why does Hanley Ramirez hit leadoff? I’m glad he did this game, but it seems like a hitter that good should be hitting 3rd in that lineup.

I hate having to watch this team play from behind all the time. Our record when we score first is something ridiculous, hopefully we can start doing it more often. Myers better shut them down until the 6th or 7th like he did last time.

I’m not trying to be funny, I’m trying to be serious. The season can take a quick turn for the worse with this tough series in Miami, and then having to go back home to face the two best teams in baseball. They better make a move, or we’ll be in 3rd place in 2 weeks.
This is not a championship team.

So Brett’s bad twin, Shit Myers, is on the hill tonight. We have to hit Ricky Nolasco.

Thank god. I thought for a second we were going to lose this game. But reverse curse Mike T came along, so we’ll be scoring any inning now.

Horrible bunt by Brett – the least he could do was lay one down.
Anyway, I think we’ll score some runs on Nolasco. It’s up to Myers and the pen to keep this one close until our offense rolls through.

I don’t see the Phils coming back from this one. Myers has put them in a hole twice tonight. He just gives up absolute no doubt bombs all year long. I’m really getting tired of watching it.

You got to love the “fans” who throw this team under the bus after 1 inning in a game. We’re talking about a team that just won 12 of 14, has the most come from behind wins in the league, and is one of the handful of teams with a winning away record.
Yet there is still the lingering negative Nancys looking to jump on them when one tiny thing goes awry.

Mike, I’m sorry man, but you’re just sad.
And as I write that Burrell hits a homer to bring them within one.
