Gamenight: Phillies (43-37) At Rangers (40-40)

Another series, another hope that maybe, just maybe, this team wins it.
The Phillies are coming off a brutal 5-0 loss to the Athletics, where Rich Harden basically demoralized them. Now the Phils play the Rangers, and are visiting Rangers Ballpark for the first time. With tonight’s game the Phils will have played in every Major League ballpark, and have hosted every team in Philadelphia. I believe that makes the Phils the first team to do such.
It’s also game No. 81. Folks, after tonight we’re at the halfway mark of the season. Wow.
The Phils go up against Kason Gabbard. Kason is an incredibly rare name, something like the 880th most popular boy’s name in America. I think Gabbard and maybe a couple kids in West Virginia and Texas have this name.
The Phils bring Brett Myers out, who needs to be shut down. And the offense has to be better. They’re hitting .181 in their last eight games.
Rangers stud hitter Josh Hamilton is a gametime decision after being hit in the hand by a pitch.
Phillies: Brett Myers (3-9) 5.51 ERA
Rangers: Kason Gabbard (2-3) 4.96 ERA
Gametime: 8:05 p.m. EST
Weather: 96, sunny
Lineup: Werth/Utley/Rollins/Burrell/Howard/Feliz/Victorino/Coste/Bruntlett

Your gamenight beer: The hoppy Berkshire Maibock comes from Massachusetts, but is a very German beer. It’s light and a good beer for this time of year. As we try to focus in on this team getting a few hits, let’s take some easy sips, chow on some fried shrimp and just enjoy the fine-looking Rangers Ballpark and the hot, hot weather in Arlington tonight.
Go Phillies!

MUST-WIN series.
We were looking pretty damn good two weeks ago. Now its a 86-88 win pace depending on tonights outcome. I hope the Phils are taking their batting practice seriously.
I suppose we get the question answered tonight: Do the Phils just suck or can we just not play with superior AL pitching staffs?
And why the hell didn’t we get to play Seattle when everyone else in the division did? Interleague scheduling is BS. I can’t even begin to fathom the low-gic used on TOR, BOS, LAA, OAK, and TEX. Can someone throw me a bone here?
If Myers shits the bed again tonight, I will personally drive up to Philly for his next home start, autograph a Duracell D-cell and bank it off his forehead.

Dick Clark: Ready. Go.
A Pedro Feliz first-pitch out. A bad-looking Ryan Howard strikeout. The Phillies stranding multiple runners on base.
Woman: Things you’ve come to expect.
Dick Clark: Right.

Myers either needs to move back to the bullpen or off the roster. If Tom Gordon is indeed hurt Myers could take his place and the Phillies could have Benson take his place in the rotation or better yet make a deal for a better starter.

I don’t know if that’s quite the end of Myers as a Phillie pitcher. But there could be a DL stint on the way.

I’m glad they yanked Myers. That’s so poor. However, I don’t trust Condrey at all… I’m with Geoff, time to take a break from this one.

I thought Condrey was only for mop up stuff. Aren’t guys like Madsen and even Durbin good for long inning stuff? I understand not using Durbin since he is probably the set up guy tonight, but why not Madsen for a couple innings?

Yeah, maybe Madson should’ve been in there, going two innings or so.

Moral of tonight: Brett Myers = Kason Gabbard.

Good point. However, this does show, as much as people complain about the starting pitching, that the bullpen is still that good even with a guy like Condrey in there because those 3, 4, and 5 guys really haven’t failed to go 5 innings at least for the most part so there hasn’t been much reason to use condrey. And as I’m saying this, why doesn’t Coste play more again?

the reason why we dont play coste more is he has said that he will play worse if he plays more and suprisingly they are 15-17 when coste starts and 27-19 when ruiz starts.

This was undoubtedly myers last start as a phillie. He will be transitioned back to the pen to setup Lidge. Otherwise he will be hitting the DL. He’s always been a headcase and i’m not sure he can even close for awhile after this half. Bring on carrasco. I Don’t think it’s a coincidence that benson is starting in syracuse on sunday either. In buffalo now and may hit the game on sunday if there’s time. If so, i’ll try to post my take on his outing for anyone interested.

get him OFF my team. ANYONE can pitch better than him at this point. JD Durbin would have a lower ERA

Right now 7.5 on the Richter Scale couldn’t shake up this team. Something’s gotta give. I don’t really blame Seanez or even the “not quite enough” top of the ninth…I blame the guy who was on the mound at the start of the game.
So long Brett. Not so nice knowin’ ya.
Bring on Carrasco!!
Somebody…DO SOMETHING!!!

ANYONE BUT MYERS
Not that the bats deserve any credit except for Feliz and Coste. This was it for Myers. It has to be. Even Mitch Williams is saying it now! Ken Mandel is hinting at it! Time for ANYTHING ELSE!

Just to state the obvious, there’s something very wrong with this team right now.
If I were Pat Gillick: I’d DFA Taguchi to send a message to the team that this crap won’t cut it. And I’d seriously consider marketing Myers as a bullpen piece and calling up Happ to replace him. The fact is, when you feel more comfortable about a game when Adam Eaton is taking the mound than when your Opening Day starter is, you know there’s a problem.
Please, Cole, save us…..

When Myers’ “Japan Trade” prank went down this spring, Kendrick said he wouldn’t seek revenge. Well, maybe Kendrick’s actually gotten his revenge on Myers by outpitching his sorry fuckin’ ass all season!

Oh, now they WILL go back and beat up on their own shitty league/division. but the texas rangers? theyre not even coming close to making the playoffs. they have shit ass garbage pitching. they cant beat that slop? whaaat?
this team is a total, complete, FRAUD! they cant beat crappy AL teams, let alone they dont even belong on the field with the good ones (except when hamels starts)
i like kendrick and moyer sometimes is ok. but lets face it, hamels is all theyve got that really scares people all around mlb.
the lineup cant hit good pitchers when they come across them. although nobody hits good pitchers. but they can still get a few runs off them. like 2. how do you do that? dont swing at the first pitch. that doesnt even work in videogames. its not going to work in real life.
theres no one on the bench that is worth a damn against good competition, except dobbs who usually is better than that. these guys need to be reamed hard by charlie. i dont think hes done that yet. go get thrown out of a game or two. i dont need to see myers, jenkins, taguchi, or eaton anymore. eaton just doesnt win games even when he pitches well.

they will still win the division and still make the playoffs. because the national league is THAT weak. especially NL east.
