I agree with you Geoff whole-heartedly about them being shutdown by good pitching! They need to hit better for contact. Especially in a game where the opponent fielding is as suspect as the Reds looked last night.

That was one thing I really liked about Polanco in their line-up. He could still be their third baseman right now? Who did we even get for him? I can’t remember.

Anyway, they can move Ryan, bring up Cardenas, and move chase to 1st. But, I don’t think this should happen for at least another year or so. I think the Phils will wait until 2010-11 to move him unless something drastic happens between now and then. I just have to believe Ryan will have a monster season after the AS break. Until then, hopefully Chase can keep carrying the ‘O’.

It seems like Cardenas is going to be a solid contact hitter as long as he continues what he’s doing now. How many years off is he from coming up?

Im just saying that they really need to start thinking about moving howard for a pitcher to help us now and position players to now. if the move is made in the offseason, then you can make it for mlb-ready prospects. if its done in season, i want people that can contribute now. you can move him and solve many of the teams problems. anybody can play first base so thats not a problem. sure, this lineup is great when theyre all hitting, but people shouldve taken away from yesterday that it is all about pitching. a good pitcher completely shut down this lineup, and hes not even the best pitcher in the national league. thats what happens in the playoffs! your offense gets shut down by the best pitching, it almost always happens that way. they need another guy to go third or second in the rotation and shut down teams completely. no, its not adam eaton. if adam eatons pitching well then he can be the 4th or 5th guy, but we still need another guy. we have all seen how this rotation can implode for two weeks and lose games for us just as easily as they can win games for us. we need more stability.

I don’t know that I would want Lincecum. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great pitcher! But how long can that last with his size? He’s a pretty small guy with a rocket arm. His durability worries me…. I see him eventually in a closer role like Billy Wagner where he doesn’t have to throw 100 pitches per game.

The Phils need today’s game bad. It makes the difference between a fine homestand and a mediorcre one. And going into series against Atlanta and Florida, with a good Cardinals team in waiting, the Phils need this one for momentum.

i still predict that ryan howard will be a yankee next season. they are desperate enough to give up a lot for him especially if they fall off the wagon this season. i would prefer he goes to the angels though because they have more to offer us (jered weaver, ervin santana, jon garland, casey kotchman, chone figgins, matthews jr, etc.) some other guys i know have no chance of moving so i wont bother.

Yes it would be. if the giants would give up lincecum id do it, but they would be absolutely insane to do that. really. other teams will offer for howard for sure. well see what happens. i would trade howard for lincecum straight up if theyd go for it. seriously.

Dude, Joba is overrated and so is Cano. I’d go after a nice young starter like Lincecum or Volquez(not that the Reds need another Dunn.) A young stud righty to 1-2 punch with Hamels would be really nice. You can send Kendrick down to the minors and let him get better. If Eaton starts pitching poorly again or Moyer dies of old age you can bring Kendrick back up.

Myers really pitched well tonight, awesome in fact, and it looks like he and adam eaton have both starter to turn the corner and find a string of consistent play. dare i even say that? i hope thats the case. i want to sure up this rotation anyway and itll only get easier if these two guys pitch well every time out.

meanwhile…wonder what the yankeed would give up for ryan howard?

would the yankees give up robinson cano or melky cabrera and either phil hughes or ian kennedy for ryan howard? maybe you can figure out a way to get chien ming wang off their hands? i know they wont give up joba chamberlain. you know the yankees will start to get desperate and go after ryan howard. maybe thats selling low, but im really disgusted right now with howard. its june, hes still not mashing, hes definitely busted. im ready to move him for some pitching and overall team depth. chase utley can probably play any position on the field. if he keeps struggling they very well might consider an offer for howard.

im just really frustrated with him already, im sick of this guy.

hey greg v: dont think im giving howard a pass, i know every time he steps up in a clutch sitaution he will either reach for a pitch low and outside or swing at the first pitch and pop up. i’m just saying the problem extends beyond him.

It is a shame that Myers gets an L for his hard work tonight.
