Hamels Breezes Through Reds To Finish 8-2 Homestand

You can call Cole Hamels UPS, because the man delivers.
Corny, sure, but Hamels bounced back 180 degrees from his last two starts, throwing his second career complete game shutout, a 5-0 silencing of the Reds to finish off the series (3-1) and the homestand (8-2) on fantastic notes.
Hamels gave up just three hits and struck out four, mostly getting Reds’ hitters to fly out easily to the outfield with the wind playing in today. The bad conditions clearly worked to Hamels’ advantage.
Meanwhile the Reds defense plagued pitcher Homer Bailey. Errors abound for the Reds, with both allowing runs to score. In one missed fly to shortstop Paul Janish, Jimmy Rollins stopped running while Carlos Ruiz booked it to score. Rollins was then taken out of the game (more on this later).
The Phils made sure to score without the Reds help, as Shane Victorino and Ryan Howard added RBI singles, and Geoff Jenkins homered for the 5-0 lead. Hamels finished off what he started, throwing 103 pitches for his sixth win of the season. It seemed too easy today, and the Phils can travel to Atlanta with a great win and homestand under their belts.

That’s the Hamels we know and love. 2nd complete game, 2nd career shutout. Now on to Atlanta to take care of the Braves…

Go Fightin’s! This is great. Let’s take care of those pesky Braves.
Oh – and I can’t wait until the series vs. the Angels because I can watch every game on TV!

P.S. You have no idea how much I miss the voice of Harry The K.
I once talked to Andy Musser on the phone when I worked in Customer Service for Sparkletts. Does he still do radio?
Have they gotten rid of horrible Chris Wheeler yet?

It’s 100% official — Manuel benched JRoll due to lack of hustle.

AP – no Andy Musser is not doing radio anymore, and unfortunately Chris Wheeler is still around, I am ashamed to know that he went and graduated from Penn State(thats where I go). I wish they would get rid of him especially since him and Harry can’t stand each other.

“Wheels” is the most knowledgeable of the broadcast team. And as game analyst, provides us the “inside” game strategy and statistical facts to support moves made on the field… pitch by pitch. Kalas is showing his age as he increasingly makes mistakes in his calls on balls and strikes (including pitch counts) and misjudged pop flies as “it’s a LONG drive…”. (laughter). he can probably get away with that on radio but not TV. Tom McCarthey and “Sarge” Mathews acts as if they need to fill the airwaves with constant chatter about everything under the sun except the game situation at hand. And it’s particularly irritating that McCarthy is allowed to roam the park and telling stories and interviewing non-baseball “celebrities while the inning is IN PROGRESS.
