The Phils Ownership group is as ususal gettin a bum rap here. We are 8th in the MLB in payroll. 8th!!! Not nearly as cheap as we’re being made out to be here. And payroll isn’t everything. Seattle is ahead of us by several million, as are the Mets. Who would you rather be right now? The Dodgers are 24 million ahead of us. The Yanks, well you know how that goes. So for the record, the only one’s ahead of us in payroll and in the standings are the RedSox, Angels, and Cubs. And we are at the least competitive if not better than those teams. The payroll we have now allows us to have the flexibility to make a move, IF it makes the team better. We’re in a damn good position.

At the end of the day, baseball is a business, and the Phils, contrary to belief have been really damn smart about how they’ve run theirs.

do not rent a player… the new babseball is to win with young talent…id rather keep them for 5 years from now then make a push into the playoffs with a rental piece that makes our team a little stronger but if we get hot at the right time this team is already championship quality with or without that player. i want the player but dont overpay like we did for garcia bc gillicks an idiot. our farm is pretty depleted. dont take what little we have to make it depleted for the next four years.. i dont mind trading for a player but make sure we lock him up for what were giving away

good to hear dave montgomery say something like that. however i’ll believe it when i see it. he’s been the face of the of the most pathetic ownership groups in all of sports for the past 20+ years. His actions have spoken louder than his words. It’ll be a dramatic turnaround in ownership philosophy if he actually means what he said there.

Hardens very scary. you could give up a haul to billy beane and then harden goes down and your franchise is F’D hardcore.

I think were stuck with myers for now unless hes included in the deal for the top elvel starter but 90 percent of the time those types of deals are prospects only coming back in return for the star going out

What is Myers going to do in the pen? He’d be a spot starter/mop up man at best. What is he going to do, replace Condrey? Condrey pitched better than him last night. Keep Myers in the rotation. He’ll eventually come around at our cost unfourtantly. He has incredible stuff, but I still think he wants to be the closer. He’s such a baby. Maybe we can trade him off for someone needing a closer? He’s a good closer.

The more I think about it, the more Harden is a scary move. Normally Beane knows what he’s doing with his young arms. Bedard should be in there.

get a starter and ship Myers to the ‘pen. He’s the only guy not picking up the slack. He’ll ease some of the pressure on Romero and he can be LOOGY

I’m pretty certain that the Phillies could sell out 75% of their games this season. They’re over 50% right now and it’s June. They’ve sold out more games this year than they did combined last year. If you get a pitcher that you know is taking you to the world series most games will sell out the rest of the year. If they get to the world series and win, then you’ll see 90% of the games get sold out next year because you know next year with the core plus this pitcher(assuming you sign him) you’re going to continue to contend, and everyone will want to go see their world series champs the Phillies try and get a repeat. You can boost up the cost of tickets and make more money because tickets cost more and you’re selling out all of your games. These owners have to be the dumbest people ever.

harden would be a terrible gamble. i agree with that. thats why beane is marketing blanton as a lot more than he really is. would love to have a guy under team control until the 2010 season like bedard.

Tim, I like your list but would certainly include Bedard. Unlike the others (with the exception of Harden), Bedard is team controlled next year as well, which means you’re giving yourself a chance both this year and next to really go for it with this core.

Oh, and Harden is the ultimate tantalizer. I don’t think our prospects would really interest Billy Beane, but even if they did, we’d have to give up all of them for a pitcher who can’t seem to stay healthy for more than a month at a time.

i think at least one of the owners, probably montgomery and not the others, understands that they can rake in more money if they win a championship than the way theyre doing it now. tahts taking into account the boost in payroll and ticket prices as mentioned earlier. thats so obvious that it doesnt even need to be stated. some of those shadow owners must really be terrible human beings if all they want to do is suck money off their fans and not deliver them a championship in the process. most money grubbing owners want to win so bad that they throw all kinds of money around and win a championship. these guys need to have it spelled out for them that yes you can spend extra money, win, AND still make more money off of a championship season

F*** our prospects. I’ve said it before, only the Phils think they are big-time. Carrasco is the only one you see in Baseball America or the like, and it ain’t like he was top 10….

i would trade our propsects in a heartbeat. this team is close, despite those millionarie, inept, cheap, chimpanzee owners….
