I know Howard had a golden sombrero tonight, but I think Utley or Ruiz should have the Jeltz award. At least Howard was striking out on good pitches and wasn’t striking out with runners on base.

Utley, Howard & Burrell went 0-12 with 8 strikeouts.
This kid his pitches lined up tonight. He made Howard especially play like a little girl having 4 k’s and look embarrassing in at least 3 of them.
He would slow it up in the mid to high 70′s and then he would smoke the inside corner with a 93 mph fastball that was way beyond what Ryan Howard could handle. Burrell too struck out 3 times and it looked like Utley mostly carried on with his 0 fer 16 slump in the past 4 games with 1 rbi and 2 runs scored. It’s way to rare that we can count on Ruiz showing up – his frustrating season continues as he has gone 7 for 41 since May 25th when his average was a season high .246 and it looked like he too was starting to contribute.
I’ll bet the Phils can’t wait to face this guy again.
Papelbon too was lights out. 96mph fastball was just too much for Howard, Burrell and Werth.
Now for the positive side; the Red Sox only scored 3 runs. Moyer was quite off as there were runners in every inning but one. In 5 innings, the Red Sox left a ton of men on base, Moyer had 5 walks and gave up 4 hits. The count was full batter after batter as he threw 106 pitches, only 57 for strikes. The Red Sox only plated 2 runs off Jamie, it could have been worse.
One more thing about this game that stuck out like a sore thumb. The Red Sox attempted 7 steals and were successful on 6 of them, including 1 by Sean Casey who has now 19 career stolen bases in 13 years.
A couple of close play sure but, they ran on all 4 of the pitchers –
Ruiz did not have a good night.
Today the Phils face another rookie pitcher they have never seen. The Phils like to score runs in bunches when Kendrick pitches, I just hope he is not able to baffle our top guys like Lester did.

Moyer threw a lot of strikes that were called balls. The reason that things looked bad for Moyer were that and the fact that these guys were extremely patient with him. It’s like they read an imaginary novel on how Jamie Moyer pitches and came out expecting it. They knew they were going to get a lot of junk pitches and to just wait for your pitch or hope to walk. At least he shut down Manny who has owned him in his career.

Yeah, supposedly the umpire behind the plate last night is Triple A call-up. It’s unfortunate that he had to be back there on a night when Jamie Moyer is pitching.

Ah, I didn’t know that Mike T. That sucks because Moyer is very deceitful. I think Moyer woulda owned them for 7 innings if he had a better ump.
