Yes, with 101 games left in the season, my expectations for Howard are the about the same as Don M’s “..Heâ€™s going to finish the year with like 40-45 HRâ€¦ 120 RBIâ€¦ “. Exactly what the club wants from a no. 4 hitter and run producer in the line-up. ;-)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA That’s fucking hilarious. Anyway, I am pretty certain that Howard will come around by July, but it just sucks to be losing games right now because of his lack of offense. I think we can get a starter like Sheets for really cheap because the Brewers suck, and they need to rebuild. He’s in a contract year, and he’s hurt constantly. He’s worth the risk for the rest of the year to try and get us to the promise land. If he can manage to stay healthy the rest of the season he’d be incredible for us. I bet he wants out of Milwaukee and he is probably pal’s with Jenkins. There are some other pitchers in contract years you might be able to get for cheap. Penny, Harden(same boat as sheets because of injuries), Greiger(the Royals are horrible and will probably try and get whatever they can), amongst some others. I think the Phillies will be in talks with a lot of teams for a lot of their good pitchers. We can probably do it without giving up Howard too who will be a amazing for us down the stretch like he always is.

They won’t be able to get much for Howard at the trade deadline because his K’s and Batting Avg will be terrible.. if they wait until the winter meetings they can use all of his “averages” as leverage.

“He averages .275, 45 HR, 125 RBIs…etc… ”

Hopefully they don’t mention his crappy defense, or strikeout records..

People are booing #1 because Griffey is out of the lineup and he is one of the main reasons fans have been going down this series. #2… Gordon and Myers seemed to be going around him.. Myers was a litle wild last night, but fans wanted to see our guys’ best VS. Ken Griffey Jr… and our guys walked him twice, (on 9 total pitches i think? 4-0 gordon, 4-1 myers?)

I’m going down today, I’m guessing Griffey will be held out against Hamels…and if he comes up to pinch-hit and they walk him.. I will boo. more at the situation than the pitcher…

Nice to see Myers pitch well. And it is no shame getting shut down by Volquez, he’s been doing it all year.

It is getting harder and harder to justify upping Howard to a long term deal. He is really starting to remind me of Jack Clark, Rob Deer, Dave Kingman, etc… etc…

Can someone explain to me why when Myers is pitching as well as he did, that he was booed for walking Griff, in a game when we were already down a run? Philly booing has become cartoonish. Myers deserved better than that last night.

Volquez is one of the top young pitchers in MLB… He’s now the strikeout leader, by 11 ( 91 Ks, Beckett is 2nd with 80) … and Volqz ERA is 1.32 … (Tim Lincecum is 2nd with a 2.23 ERA)

So you have to tip your cap to him too for just being a filthy pitcher.. but after Victorino walks, and Utley gets hit… for Howard to be swinging at the first pitch was not a smart move… especially trying to poke one the opposite way. He’s going to finish the year with like 40-45 HR… 120 RBI… and a sub-.250 batting average

The bats were bound to get cold and the Reds had a talented pitcher on the mound. We had rattled off a couple of W’s, bound for an L sooner or later. Myers more than did his job. No shame.

Did anyone else see that stat listing the Phils w/ the best NL batting avg. with runners in scoring position? that blew my mind.

OK, let’s not get down on ourselves here. Even if they lose today it’s a 7-3 homestand and we’re still in first place going into Atlanta. Yikes, people.

Point is, Myers did exactly what he needed to do last night. He pitched into the eighth, pitched well (sans the walks, but that strike zone shrunk rapidly) and gave the bullpen a rest. Today we need Cole and the offense to guide them to an easy win.
