Phils Squeak By Braves In Unbelievable Finish

The Phillies won any way they could Friday night, taking every opportunity and turning it to their favor in a wild 4-3 win against the Braves in Atlanta.
Shane Victorino deserves the most praise, getting to Braves starter Tim Hudson early with a triple, then winning the game with another in the 10th inning. Of course, nobody can forget his beam that beat Gregor Blanco and closed the door on the Braves 10th inning rally. As you can see, the throw beat Blanco by maybe a few inches.
Jamie Moyer also turned in a gutsy performance going 5.1 innings and walking a fine line most of the night. An absent Braves offense couldn’t capitalize off what the Phils were giving them, sans a Brian McCann home run. Chipper Jones continued his torrid hitting pace with two more.
Big hand to the bullpen, as well. Chad Durbin pitched out of Moyer’s jam in the sixth, and the rest of the ‘pen (JC Romero, Ryan Madson, Rudy Seanez, Tom Gordon) kept the Braves at bay before handing the ball to Brad Lidge with the lead. He wasn’t quite on his game, with hitters striking him well for a couple hits, but luckily, Victorino took care of that.
At the end of the day, the Phils weren’t even supposed to have that opportunity to win. But the Braves made their mistakes, and just as great teams do, the Phils capitalized. Now 3.5 games up in the National League East, the Phils are starting to feel, smell, taste, sound and look like a great team.

Maybe I’ve seen too many Red Socks highlights, but does anyone else think the Braves will take some cheap shots tonight? They were FURIOUS at the way it ended.

Roman, I think the Braves should take a cheap shot at Kelly Johnson, but I’m not sure who else. The Phils didn’t take that one…the Braves gave it away. They should be furious. I love it.

I just talked to Mike T. He can’t believe how crappy the Phils played. In his words, “we just are not a good team.”

Cheap shots at what? they were pissed at themselves. JC Romero pitched like shit, Im worried about his pitching of late. I was at the bar with good buddy (Braves fan) and it was a great game to watch.

I agree with Romero…he’s been getting really wild. The BoSox traded him because of control issues. We need another lefty. I’m a big fan of Eaton for Garbow. Bring Carrasco up as 5th starter until Benson is ready.

thats a good idea phil. easton FINALLY has some trade value and moving him for a bullpen arm and aprospect maybe too will help us get out of a bad contract. it only works though IF they go out and get a starting pitcher who is more reliable than eaton to stabilize the back of the rotation, not to mention the need for another guy at the front. well take it one step ata time

Carrassco and Benson could probably do better than Eaton, but honestly, Eaton has been doing pretty awesome. I think he found his stuff. As for Howard, I think Howard is going to come around and start hitting like the MVP he is. I am so impatient with him because of his slumps, but his past 2 seasons down the stretch have been sooooooo amazing. If you get another #1 or #2 starter for some prospects and another lefty in the bullpen, along with Howard coming around and being the RBI machine we all know and love, then we’ll be the most unstoppable team in baseball. Right now we’re just the most unstoppable team in the NL, and that’s not saying much.
