According to Rotoworld, the Phillies and Brewers have expressed interest in Royals starter Zach Greinke.
The 24-year-old Greinke is 7-4 with a 3.40 ERA this year. For his career the 2002 first round draft pick is 28-39 with a 4.40 ERA. From Rotoworld:
Greinke is a free agent after 2010 and figures to be a tough sign for Kansas City, but if he stays healthy, he’ll likely have at least as much trade value in a year as he does now. The Royals would have to be blown away to deal him. The Brewers, though, could tempt them if they’d offer Mat Gamel and either catcher Angel Salome or shortstop Alcides Escobar.
Yeah, the Phils would need to offer a heck of a lot to get Greinke, and frankly, I can’t believe they’d have enough.

Why should a team give up the farm for Greinke? I’d offer a nice package and let it ride. Cardenas, Outman, and a B level.

Thats a decent offer for him. YOu have like two additional years of team control anyway. Itd be one thing if were talking about tim lincecum here.
grienke is definitely worth pursuing though within reason.

i really love pat gillick’s ability to find a diamond in the rough like this. this is a guy that isn’t on anybody’s radar but who is a clear cut top of the rotation pitcher who wouldn’t cost nearly as much as some of the other guys that have been mentioned in the trade rumors.

Lets hold off on the pat gillick praise until he actually GETS someone who is valuable.
they always “inquire”
if he gets him and hes NOT injured and hes good then its a good trade.
most trades can only be evaluated over time, however, sometimes you have a gut reaction knowing whether a trade is good or bad.

Greinke and Bedard would be top of my list since they’re both controllable beyond this year. And I’d be happy to offer them both Carrasco and Cardenas for him if it would get the deal done. Just no Marson.
