So the Rockies and the Giants have as many all-stars as the Phillies.

Also, why is Brian Wilson on the all-star team? The Giants are already represented with Lincecum. Wilson has a 4.37 ERA in a pitcher’s park and yet he’s picked over Johan and Hamels.

Griffin~ Hank Sauer (1948 Reds) was the last NL player to lead the league in homers and RBIs and left off the All Star game roster. There is still a very slight chance Howard could be added to the roster in the event of injury.

I’d much rather have Duch than Burnett

Clint Hurdle is a duche. He picked Aaron Cook over Johan and Hamels. That is embarassinly biased.
Hurdle’s playing a 3 game set in New York starting tonight, so of course he picked Wright.

I heard something on the WFAN today that this will be the first all-star game since 1940 where the league leader in HR and RBI isn’t there.

MLB trade rumors (linking, I think, to Stark) said that the Phils and Brewers inquired about Greinke and were turned away. It really makes no sense for the Royals to move him, so I don’t know that there’s much we can do. An offer of the type they couldn’t pass up (say, Werth, Cardenas, Carrasco and Outman) is WAY too much to pay.

Also, my proposal above probably won’t work for the A’s – they’d want a pitcher. Donald, Bastardo/Outman, and two filler guys for Duchscherer and Embree still makes sense to me.

I hope Beane is looking at Carmona and thinking that Duch won’t hold up next year – then maybe he’ll sell as low as he sold Harden. The Phils were clearly willing to trade half the farm for an obvious rental, so getting another guy who may only be here for a year for much less cost seems sensible to me. If Duch is available, his value is as high as ever right now, so Beane may come out gunning instead. I just hope someone in the front office is making the inquiry.

Greinke would be ideal, but the Royals don’t seem to have ANY interest in moving him. I’d be willing to include Werth in a deal, but the remainder of the asking price would probably be so high that it wouldn’t be worth it, even for Greinke.

That said, Duch has already pitched a career high in innings this year at 101 (due to the fact that he only made spot starts before this yr). So, will he hold up? Who knows. Then again, when you’re talking about one guy on the DL (Bedard) and one guy who has given up 13 ER in his last two starts (Burnett), I wouldn’t be too quick to write Duchscherer off.

Only problem with Duchscherer is that he hasn’t started regularly till this year, so there’s no good way to tell if he’ll hold up. Also, his ERA this year (1.78) is likely to go up, as I read that he’s got a .227 BABIP which won’t hold up all year.

Still, his career ERA+ is 142 and WHIP is 1.10. That’s fantastic. ERA+ from 2003-2007: 134, 139, 198, 152, 85. He was an all star in 2005. Last year was a down year but he’s clearly bounced back. Beane wants to wait until after the season to talk extension, so there’s a fair chance he could be had. Then again, who knows with Beane, and I’m not sure I’m comfortable with Gillick/Amaro trying to match wits with him.
