Young pitchers development is so fragile and the way Carrasco’s development is handled could be the difference between a soft ace behind Hamels, or a short term failure in the rotation that will end up with the front office critisised endlessly for not trading him while he had top prospect value.

He’s not ready yet. He doesn’t have the confidence in his stuff. He’s being compared to Josh Beckett. Let him stay down there and get it together so that he can come up here and become Josh Beckett.

If Carrasco is such a top prospect,why haven’t the Phils called him up yet?I think the Phils should call him up soon and do something like what the Yankees did with Joba Chamberlain and let him make some relief appearances and transiton him into a starter.

I agree with Lewisauce. Can’t touch a pitching prospect like that. He’s projected as a great #3 starter with the potential to be a solid #2 or a weak ace. Hamels/Carrasco could be a great 1-2 punch.

Carrasco takes English classes, as do all other Latin American players coming into the league. It’s part of their training, believe it or not. Trying to find a link to the article I read about it in the spring.

For all the Carlos Ruiz bashers-he leads the league in catcher’s ERA with a 3.56

I realize his hitting has to improve, but saying things like “we should cut him” is lazy. Look at how he helps the pitching staff which is more important than his crappy hitting. He can back up Marson next year.

Also, good to see that Marson and Carrasco are staying

but seriously, would it be too much to ask for the Phillies to have someone around him who could speak to him in Spanish? If youre trying to coach someone, it’s gonna be damn near impossible if you can talk to them.

Otherwise he sounds, awesome… bring the kid up!

I love the catcher in double A; Carrasco and Donald both look like they are keepers; I agree that we should not give up any more than one of these guys unless we get a stud that is around beyond this season;

on another subject, the offense is troubling me; it seems that it clicks when Rollins and Victorino are getting on which is not happening nearly enough

any ideas about why the offensive slow down, other than that Ruiz can’t hit a lick which even I can see

If Carrasco is traded as part of a package for Bedard, Gillick is either a moron or is setting himself up for a 3-year run as Mariners GM. Greinke is a different story…the only untouchable in a Greinke deal should be Marson, because we desperately need a catcher. Otherwise, the Phils should open the system up and deal for Greinke (and, if possible, DeJesus).

Saw that article too, and I love to hear that from Carrasco.

I’m generally loathe to part with prospects, especially with a system as thin as the Phils. If I was Gillick, the only — and I repeat ONLY — way I’d surrender Carrasco is if I was getting a top-flight starter controllable at least through 2009. That is to say, Bedard or Greinke.

if the kid finds some mound presence he’d be something else, i was impressed by his spring training outings (spring training yes… but it was in the spring hamels made a name for himself too)

I just read that too. I didnt know he threw 96. you dotn want to get rid of that velocity because they dont have a lot of hard throwers. i agree. if there are two guys you cant touch its those two. find other way, gillick, and thats what he is doing and has said as much.

creative GMs dont need to give up their top two prospects. if hes even an average GM, hell find a way
