Commentary: Vote For Burrell

How a guy like this is excluded from the All-Star game is beyond me:

284 AB, .278 AVG, .411 OBP, .585 SLG, 21 HR, 53 RBI, 47 R

Pat Burrell deserves to be in the All-Star Game. There’s no reason whatsoever why he shouldn’t playing. Phuture Phillies has devoted a whole post to the Burrell-for-All-Star campaign. Check it out.

This isn’t just about Burrell this year. It’s about a guy who has hit 239 career home runs in nine seasons. It’s about a guy who has been one of the great Phillies of all time. It’s about a guy who has become a fan favorite in Philly after years of torture. Burrell has never played in the All-Star game, yet here are some guys who have:

  • Shea Hillenbrand
  • Cesar Izturis
  • Felipe Lopez
  • Morgan Ensberg

And I just looked at the 2005 rosters. Seriously, let’s get Burrell in the game. Vote now.

    Brewers, Indians agree on Sabathia:

I’m actually glad about this. Now we can concentrate on getting a more affordable starter.

shame we dont have a deep farm system like that though. now theyve got sheets and sabathia as a 1-2 punch. look out….and when they both walk theyll get an assload of first round picks

There should’ve been a whole post devoted to Sabathia since every post turns into a discussion about Sabathia.

Sabathia is walking after this year, no question about it and the brew crew are pretty ballsy giving up their best spect for a rent a pitcher. I cant see them making it far in the playoffs but then again I doubted the Rockies.

Going after Bedard should be a no brainer now.

    Burrell deserves to be in.

Oh – what is UP with MLB.TV during rain delays? Can’t they show like..This Week In Baseball..or something?!

    Hahah AP.

Okay, I voted for Burell at least 20 times. Inevitably, Wright will get it (maybe the only guy more deserving), but I took care of business.

Isn’t batting average a funny thing? If Burrell were hitting 20 points higher (if he had 6 more hits), he would probably been picked. Same with Wright. Yet their OPS’s are stellar.

TJ, why can’t you see the Brewers making it far in the playoffs? I think they’ll have trouble making the playoffs, but if they do, you can’t F with Sheets then CC.

The Brewers are going to win that division now.

I still don’t know if the Brew Crew are better than the Lovable Losers there in Chi Town, but they should get the Wild Card entry. With those two pitchers they’ll be tough to take on. Especially in a short series.

the phillies and cubs have to make a counter move now. the cubs will move for burnett, will the phillies move for bedard ? id prefer a more creative solution for a top pitcher.

I voted for Pat about a dozen times, and I’ll do it again tomorrow and later in the week.

Now maybe we’ll concentrate on a pitcher who could actually be here for a couple years.

We don’t need a counter offer, the cubbies do. The Cubs are so overrated. Dempster is falling back to earth. It’s just a totally overrated team.

yeah we need a counter move. if we met milwaukee in the playoffs with sheets and sabathia we would lose the series. this team cant even take 3 of 4 from the lowly mets and hit their slop like aaron heilman and oliver perez, let alone defeat sheets and sabathia. the phillies need a countermove to beat that team in a playoff series should they face them. i dont even think this team can get out of the NL now. theyll get out of their division, thats it. same as last year, first round loss. UNLESS they add another starter, another reliever, AND another hitter because the guys they have now seem to have problems hitting that have continued most of the season.

tons of bad at bats in key situations that have cost us game after game. the only reason they are in first place is because of the failure of their division rivals to sieze the opportunity. the phillies should not be in first place. fortunately, the rest of the division is not very good.

someone will challenge this team down the stretch, they will need additional talent if they are to prevail. other teams improve, so you have to improve as well. otherwise you will get passed by.

dont you think we arent a bit overrated after that performance the past two games agaisnt the mets, who definitely suck. this lineup is not as good as their lineup last year. it yearns for someone like aaron rowand and they dont have it. they have not replaced rowands production like we assumed they would.

If they just started Werth every day in right field I think Rowand’s production would be almost met. Jenkins is hopeless.

GORDON IS ON THE 15 DAY DL!!!

And RJ Swindle is back to replace Gordon!

I hope that Gordon can come back and be HUGE down the stretch like he was last year. Maybe Swindle will pitch well and we can say goodbye to Condrey.

Danny, I personally believe the Cardinals beat them out for a Wild Card but if they get to the playoffs they will be tough to match up with, there’s no denying that but I think the Cubs can take them out as well as the Phils even though it looks like this blog is losing coinfidence in them every at bat.

We need Bedard now. His price is lower than ever and hes locked up for more than just this year. We could really use him and Hamels in the first two games of a playoff series especially if we get matched up with the Brew.
