Eaton Sent Down To Minors

Adam Eaton has been optioned to the Minor Leagues.
Eaton was 4-8 with a 5.80 ERA this season for the Phillies. Yesterday he gave up three earned runs in two innings against the Braves.
The move would likely bring pitcher JA Happ back to the Phils. He was pulled early from his start yesterday. And I say thank you, and good riddance to Adam, who did nothing to show he was a Major League pitcher again this season. We held out hope for him too long, and now he’ll have to figure out if he’s good enough to be a Major League arm again.

Sigh of relief…….
Now lets hope that means Myers is moving to late inning work and Happ joins the rotation.

My glee in seeing Eaton gone is tempered by what all of this says about the state of this team.
Here’s hoping the moves with Eaton and Happ are part of some kind of master plan to bring a real starter to Philly.*
* This will never happen.

Happ has to move into the rotation. He has shown well in his two starts and his arm is conditioned to start. He is a strikeout pitcher who will work well in CBP.
Myers wants to be a reliever, and he has stated as such. He is not the closer and won’t be as long as Lidge is here. Why not make him the set-up man to work the 8th?? That is nearly as important and he can come in with the same attitude he showed last year as a closer. Then when Gordon comes back from his vacation to pitch the last month he would fill into the 7th inning role along with Romero. In addition, you would be showcasing Myers in the pen to move him and his big salary as a closer during the offseason.
I would hate for the Phills to try to make Happ a LOOGY and have him hurt his arm or something. The kid is a starter and should remain one!!

Boy, I agree with Buffalo on all counts except the part about Tom Gordon….Please leave him where ever he is and dont bring him back…I also dont think Happ would be an effective LOOGY.

Flash gave us some great games but Charlie cant be trusted to sit him down when he is hurt…He pitches him no matter ,whether Flash is healthy or not

Eaton didnt have any GOOD starts, but as of Jun14, he was serviceable. 4.57 and 2-4 with poor run support.
Unfortunately, he came apart at the seams after that, and his leash was justifiably short after last season.
I say Myers should get a another couple of shots at starting before banishing him to the bullpen or another team forever. Happ may prove to be the elusive lefty set-up guy out of the ‘pen that the phils have been looking for.

like i said in the other Happ thread, my bet is that they’ll probably let Myers start tomorrow against that Nationals to see if there’s any additional improvement. if he doesn’t deliver anything short of a lights out performance tomorrow, give the job to Happ for the rest of the season please. i think putting Happ in the BP would be a waste of his talent. so far this year the kid’s proven he’s got guts and talent that make him more valuable than Eaton and Myers combined. let Happ start!

Thank god. I never want to see Eaton’s face in the bigs again. As for Happ, you have to put him in the rotation. He’s proven that he belongs there as of now. Put Myers in the bullpen where he wants to be and where he can do the least amount of damage to this team.

I think we need to see Brett with another start. Maybe a start against the nats will boost his confidence. It still seems to be a first innning thing with him.
So are we rooting for the Marlins tonight? I am. If somehow they could both lose.
If Adam gets released does that mean we have to pay his contract next year too?

Myers to pen, Happ to rotation, trade for Randy Winn.

Voice: sounds good to me, but I’d still like to see this team add another lefty reliever. I think it is a higher priority than getting another bat at this point.

ESPN is saying it is likely Happ will be in the pen.

If he was cut and given his outright release, then yes, we’d be on the hook for his entire 2009 salary as well. If we trade him to someone stupid enough to want him (I can’t possibly think of anyone that dumb) then we’d only have to pay a portion of it, although it would be a large chunk.

Myers won’t be shifted to the pen now, they spent far to much effort and time straightening him out. And he’s still potentially our #2. I’d guess that Happ goes to the pen for now and then takes Kendricks spot in the rotation after KK suffers a couple of bad outings. KK will then be optioned to AAA and Eaton is recalled to pitch out of then pen in long relief.

Banish to the bullpen as a set-up guy? Is that really gonna help? A good team has *good* arms for the set-up role in the BP. Not someone with a 5+ ERA. Its not just a place to banish failed SP’s.
Why give the ball to a guy who’s most likely gonna give up a HR in his first inning of work when you’re in the 8th with a 1 run lead? Durbin has 2 HRs this year, Lidge 1. That’s why their ERA’s are around 2, not 5+, and have been successful.
IMHO – If Myers goes the the BP – he should have the clean up / long man role while trying to work back to who he used to be (and what he’s getting paid to be)

Is it too early to talk about moving Blanton to the pen? Cheap pricks, go get a real starter.
In all seriousness though, it’s a day for rejoicing. I’ve been waiting for Eaton to be demoted since we signed him…worst signing ever. Happ should start.

What do you guys think of a McNabb show on TV where he is cooking and then bringing the food to the streets and given it out for people to eat and watch Eagles football

Jaws and McNabb are the best QB father son combo in a long while Jaws can still play if he wanted to maybe on the Bears.

Happ will probably start off in the pen, to much of the dismay of everyone outside the owners suites in CBP. I’d make Myers happy and move him to the set up or at least middle relief, hell even give him a theme song if he turns his season around

My only issue with giving Myers the ball in the 8th inning is his first inning woes lately. Do we really want a guy that will walk the bases loaded in the 8th inning?
Hope to see Happ in rotation. Also hope to see us land a stud starter, another bat, and a lefty reliever in the next few hours! Not so sure that’s happening!

Voice, you can probably add Antonio Alfonseca (5-2; 5.44) and Rod “Clutch” Barajas and his .129 RISP average (.230 overall in 2007) to that as well.

Richie, you hit the nail on the head. Why is it we always sell our top stars (Rolen, Schilling, Abreu) for shit? What have we received out of any of those other than salary relief? We should be so lucky as to land a stud for nothing.

Brad Lidge was a nice trade.
Abreu for Stocker worked out ok.
Over the last 20 years, thats pretty much it.

True, but I meant when we traded out studs away for “prospects.” Lidge was a steal (and because Wade is a retard), and Stocker was hardly a stud. How about we trade away someone like Ruiz and Feliz for Miguel Cabrera? Why can’t we be lucky enough to do that once in awhile?

Our prospect depth has always been so thin that it cuts deep every time we trade them away. Thats all I can guess. We just cant weather the storm of losing prospects.

NEPA, I couldn’t DISagree with you more! You say you never want to see the sensational Adam Eaton in the Bigs again, but I counter that with the FACT that every Phils fan would LOVE to see Adam back up here… in the Mets rotation (zoom, zoom, zoom)!
As for Myers, as much as I would love to see him HAPP-y (get it? Good) and in the pen, it can’t be as your set-up man in the 8th! Remember our lights out reliever? No, not Brad Lidge. Chad Durbin! The guy has been nothing short of a miracle! He is having the best stretch of his career and you want to forget about it, silly geese!
Ride the hot hand, trade for Ron Mayhay (try to package David DeJesus), Happ to the rotation (quality stuff, not electric, but quality), Mahay and Myers to the pen (7th inning w/ Madson and Romero), and EATON TO THE METS!!!
P.S- Lost in all this was the fact the the soon-to-be 40 yr old Rudy Seanez was also called into Uncle Chuck’s office. It was nice knowing ya’ Rudes, but I am sure the Tigers will claim you off waivers

Our farm system hasn’t always been thin Voice. Man, you forget that half our big club came up through the system (Jimmy, Rhyno, Chase, Cole, Brett), hell, even Adam Eaton was drafted by us! Our farm stinks because they are all studs on the major league level. Focus on that more than the current state of our farm. It will be built up again, but when the Drabeks, Marsons, Carrascos, and Taylors of the world are tearing up MLB, our system will be thin again and people will complain (not saying you’re complaining…take this post the right way. Its NOTHING personal)

agreed, but we have business to take care of and that is the Nats. They are no gimme. Tim Redding (Wednesday) has been very good against the NL East, us in general and John Lannon** (Thurs) has been very good for them all season, so 2 out of 3 will take some fight, but that’s why were the fightin’ Phils!
**Lannon is the prick who broke Utley’s hand, I hope he gets POUNDED
