using a veteran to trade for young bats may not be the smartest – they are trying to get to the playoffs and world series. i am not really sold that we need a “huge” Matt Holliday kind of bat, though. While he would be nice, he would come at too high of a price. we would be better off trying to get a player like him in the off season to replace Burrell (if we let him go), as they would be cheaper. i think this team can win with its lineup the way it is – they just have to play to their potential. it doesn’t make any sense to trade away J-Roll or Howard, for instance, just to get some young unproven talent. These guys are proven, just having subpar years.

it has to be a reliever and a bat. they HAVE to get another bat, just to be safe. just someone that can keep a rally going or get a clutch single. i doubt theyll go for another starter, i think youre right there. they should but they need to address those two other needs then come back and address the starter. i still think thye should sell off one established guy, who is NOT an outfielder, to REALLY shake the team up. maybe that return will bring a few young players you can use down the stretch.

Geoff, I think you’re right – Gillick has something up his sleeve I”m sure. I just don’t know if it’s good or not. I don’t see him getting another starter – maybe an OF, but more likely than not it will be a reliever.

theyve been really quiet about trades the past few days. that must mean, or it should mean, that gillick is up to something. i can sense another move coming tomorrow or monday. then another one, hopefully, to follow on wednesday or thursday. they have to be big deals too.

craziest game i’ve been to aside from when the phillies clinched the national league championship in ’93. every inning after the phillies took the lead was so tense. that dobbs homerun was a BLAST. great win, now they need to take the series tomorrow.

cant believe they showed a little heard and got the comeback win. hamels was terrible. no excuses, you just dont give up 9 runs in one inning. granted, only 4 of those were earned but come on, strike some people out when your team needs it. and they couldnt field anything today, they definitely needed it.

i was encouraged by some clutch situational hitting though. ryan howard is actually having another good year. tons of RBIs.

they still need an everyday outfielder, a reliever, and another starter.

I was there tonight. Great comeback. Hamels did not pitch as bad as his line. Other than Tex’s shot, a lot of bouncers that found the gap through the infield. More importantly, the offense came through, and from the “2nd tier” guys: Werth, Coste and of course, The Natural (Dobbs)…what a blast. Having watched most games, it seems Rollins does play hard, but like Utley, getting fooled on first pitch change-ups. They need to adjust.

true, although he only pitched an inning. i may get lucky enough to pitch an inning and have the ball hit directly at people too, though. wow, larussa is hitting the pitcher 8th and izturis 9th. does he do that often? i don’t pay attention to the cards normally.

oh, my bad, i guess he really isn’t a rookie. he just sucks. 32 years old, has a grand total of 8 2/3 innings pitched for his career and an ERA over 11. He might actually be worse than Eaton after all. Oh, and it’s 3-0 now.
