I hope the Phillies don’t do anything stupid and sacrifice the future for this season, b/c this team just isn’t very good. They are 6 games below five hundred for the last two months! Save the prospects and try again next year. We done.

This should be an interesting AB. I really don’t understand why all the Philly fans are so down. Jesus you guys were in first place since April 19th. Just imagine being a Mets fan. You lose to shitty teams and then you go take 2 of 3 from the Yankees and then you go take 2 of 3 from the Angels. It hasn’t been a pretty ride for us either. We are pretty much in the same boat.

Bottom line – Phils are terrible right now. They have no heart or passion. The supposed big guns are incredibly inconsistent. Utley doesn’t have the guts to be a leader. Howard is too much of a head case to fill the role. This team will never win a championship so I vote for tearing it down. Why tease us like they have for the last 5 seasons when even if they make the playoffs they have no shot of winning the Series.

They will get a good addition to the back-end of the bullpen. I just wonder at what cost???

Done? That’s pretty moronic. they are 1 GB with a better pitching staff than last season. All they need to do is pull their heads out of their asses at the F&^king plate!!! There’s no way this team should hit like this day in and day out. Yes, Jenkins, Ruiz, and Feliz suck (and we knew that going in), but the problem has been more of a Rollins/Utley/Howard one. Someone has go to step up and put this offense on his shoulders. Ain’t no MVP coming from this lineup.

It doesn’t matter – Mets will always suck, and even if they make the playoffs (and knowing the Mets, they’ll find a way to blow that too), they won’t go past one round. Mets are old, and right now simply lucky. Laws of averages will catch up to them.

I swear to god, that was one of the loudest “jump off the bandwagon” moments ever.
What the hell is wrong with all of you.. We ain’t winning the World Series this year… we all know that.. but we have a pretty decent team, and they aren’t playing that well right now.. don’t give up yet.
Nothing is over until we decide it is !! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor ?? Hell No!

They don’t NEED pitching anymore. They need f***ing bats! Man, I’m so t’eed. Second rubber game in a row and we can’t bat for sh**. Nice little trip through the NL East- lose lose lose. Not a damn way we get the division now. Dammit.

I see that the Phils are scuffling again vs. Perez. Feels like a game that they will lose 3-1 or something low scoring like that…

Next 6 games are very interesting however: Phils have Atlanta and Washington. GOTTA COME UP BIG ON THOSE GAMES. Mets have Cardinals and Florida – teams playing for something. This still could change pretty quickly, but its up to the Phils to make it happen and win. (B/c the Mets will do their part and go, at best, 3-3 in the those next 6!!!)
NY fans – you all blow!

The whole team stinks. Eff em all. Can’t hit in the clutch and they keep on blowing solid pitching efforts. I am sick of everyone saying it is the pitching. It is these freakin sallies in the middle of the lineup. Oh yeah, and Feliz sux all around. worst base runner in all MLB.

Way to ride the momentum of the first game Phils….. Mets have no heart? Well you could have fooled me with the way they bounced back in these two games….and their starting pitching looks set for the stretch run

let’s face it, Phil fans, the Mets own us this year. we just suck in all aspects. i don’t understand why we’re getting so upset at Reyes for showboating, either. every team does it, including ours. he is hated for being a great player, not for being a showboat. if it was the mets turn in 2007 to collapse after the allstar break, it’s ours this year. i think this is what we get for talking so much trash all the time.

Would have never guessed that people are giving up on them after a loss. The most up and down fans in sports. I’m not one of them but half of this thread demostrates who the real fans are and the bandwagoners. Any fan who gives up on a baseball team in July is a jackass and should never watch the sport again. Fucking relax, we’re a game out with a series against the Braves coming up, at home. I’ll be at all three since the Phils tend to win when I go to games. Sometimes you have to be supersticious.

They’re gutless. There are teams that you know will scratch and claw to get to a win — and this team resembled a team like that on Tuesday night — and there are teams that you know are content with getting close. There are teams that have players who will fight to get on base, and there are teams where players try to hit every pitch out. There are teams that will make the playoffs, and there are the Phillies.
The culprits are unusual for this team: a listless approach, no one running (yes, Rollins runs, but the MVP never gets on base) and hitting that knows no situation and produces home run derby swings and Little League results. You can fix the latter part with work, but this team hasn’t proven that it wants to put in that work.
They seem, ever since Bruntlett railroaded Yadier Molina at the plate, to be a team that just goes out there for a paycheck. Yeah, there’s no more clicheed barb to throw at a team than that one, but how do you account for guys who can’t and won’t move baserunners, guys who walk off the field with their heads slung low after popping out with a runner on third, without even a hint of emotion, and guys who swing at anything thrown by a pitcher as long as it’s not a pickoff to first?
There seems to be no fun inside of this team, and there sure as hell isn’t any fun in watching them. The Mets are in first now, and they’re not gonna give it up willingly, as we certainly did. Last year’s team didn’t let anybody off the hook, and this year, leaving runner after runner on the basepaths, that’s all we’re doing.

Relax. I’m not saying the Phillies are making the play-offs- but they’re hardly done.
The Mets are a .500 team plus one eight game winning streak. Since the break, they’re 4-3 playing at home versus the Phillies and a notsogood Reds team.
How about the Mets play one month, after the all-star game, at say- three over .500- before we quit?
22 of our next 28 are against teams w/ losing records- so I’m pretty sure, even w/ our struggles, we’ll be a few games over break even. Let’s see if the Mets can play 18-12 over that span before we quit.

Rivlez, I’m trying not to be down but I’ve seen this movie like a million times before, and I know what’s coming…
Tuesday night was great, but these guys really really blew a huge opportunity to rip the Mets hearts out after that. Instead, we lose another series after winning game 1. JUST CANNOT HAPPEN. Can you imagine where things would be if not for Tuesday night’s comeback? 3 out…
I don’t know where you are, but I have to work in Manhattan with tons of idiot Met fans around me. It’s tough to relax in that environment. One a**hole met fan just sent me an e-mail, subject: 1st place – and then saying “is ours!!!” I replied “congratulations. enjoy it through the weekend”, and I hope that’s the case, BUT C’MON PHILS JUST GOTTA DO SOMETHING NOW…AND FAST…
I’ll never really get off the bandwagon…so here’s a semi-hearted “Go Phils” for everyone.

Maybe it’s Jen’s fault for paying more attention to those Fing dogs! I swear, if she keeps this shit up, I am moving in with Brett Myers!!!! Yeah, that’s it, maybe after one of my dreadfully horrible games, I can take my frustrations out like he does. i understand geoff’s feelings, but I still wouldn’t trade him yet. totally don’t get why rollins swung at the very first pitch in that situation. It seems like way too many times the Phils are swinging first pitch.

Since June 10th, we’ve played 37 games- 31 versus winning teams (only losers were Atlanta and Arizona (one game under) including some brutal good teams (ie. The American League).
That is your swoon right there. An 88 win-team (which, if your rational about the Phils is where they are) isn’t going to play .500 ball against that slate.
But again, 22 out of the next 28 are against losers- and I bet we “look†a whole lot better four weeks from now.

If you aren’t going to be either.. please just go back to your North Jersey home and take pictures of your blow-out haircuts.. the exact same new haircut that your friends all have.. and then post those pictures on MySpace..

Look at the Rays… they don’t look so hot right now.. all teams have their ups and downs.. we’ve been in a funk and haven’t been able to get a win steak going, despite some very good starting pitching.
I would only trade JRoll for Halladay.. and that aint happenin

ADam you are a boob – yeah the mets will blow it in the playoffs? How did you do in the playoffs last year? Oh that ‘s right, you embarrassed the NL East. Count the playoff wins between the teams since the Phillies early 90′s “success.” What is it, 19 to 5? retard.

Phillies fans are not bandwagon fans…that is a fact. We are passionate fans and passion breeds passionate reactions. When we get slop on the field we damn well have the right to sling it back. I’m pissed with the way the team blew a chance to make a statement and I might wish I could just turn off the switch and not care. However, what makes us great fans is the fact that we don’t know where that switch is…
…if the ship goes down (and it appears to be taking on water at a quick rate right now) I’ll be going down with it!

Don M. – I have been pissed about the loss today and have been reading this blog and have been even more pissed when I think about our team. Your animal house quote just made me bust up laughing, thanks for that. I needed it.
BTW Chase Utley is a shadow of his former self, like the past two years when he played with all heart and gave everything he had day in and day out, that’s why he became my favorite Philly. Now he seems like he doesnt care.
Also, I got a nickname for Madson. Maddy Cakes, for that pancake he tossed up to Reyes last night.

It actually seems the opposite: they take too many easy fastballs, then swing at pitches way out of the zone. It seems that pitchers are always ahead of them. This offense needs some life. It is not just underachieving, but weak. The home run swings will get them nowhere. While I respect people who say that Howard’s production is impressive, he is a one-dimensional player who should be dealt. In the Golden Era, there was always a missing ingredient – who turned out to be Pete Rose. A scrappy, speedy contact hitter, once again, is what they need out of the trade market – not more pitching. I see teams like the Mets and the Marlins go with pitches and stroke them for base hits, not for longballs. That is why they can compete with almost any pitcher. Our guys, instead, want to hit home runs, and their more aggressive, more methodical opponents have not let them escape with such an approach.

Neither team has a World Series ring recently, so neither team should talk smack… if anything.. the Mets have a higher payroll, and greater expectations every year.. so you would consider them more of a disappointment.

i see them stare at tons of “it doesnt get any greener” fastballs right down the middle and then swing at garbage. this tells me that they arent prepared at all for their appearances at the plate. theyre not studying pitchers, theyre not preparing mentally. the manager has to come in there and grill them and get it right.
otherwise, you trade the player, if they arent foxused and arent trying and arent acknowledging their mistakes. that sounds like jimmy rollins and shane victorino to me.

Well considering the Mets are now in first place its hard to call them a disappointment….the Phillies on the other hand blew a 6 1.2 game lead in a month and could have buried the Mets. That is disappointing. And yes bla bla bla last year Mets blew it in September when it counts…..Yup they did “LAST YEAR”

This team looks really sloppy today. Ollie has 7 strike outs already. He’s on pace to get 15+ k’s. This offense is so fucking pathetic. I’m about to become a fucking Royal’s fan. At least they try eventhough they’re talentless. It is painfully obvious this team is lacking leadership. Jamie should get up in their faces and tell them to stop being a bunch of pussies. He’s played with better talent than what’s on the Phillies. I’m sure he’s sick of them acting like a bunch of primadonna’s. the bullpen, Hamels, and Moyer are the only guys that have been actually coming to play. We are making Ollie look like the greatest pitcher in the world. How the fuck did they not score Bruntlett on that shit? Say goodbye to 1st place. They are fucking pathetic. Speaking of Bruntlett, look at him. He had 2 hits, and doesn’t have nearly as much talent as Rollins. This team has no life. Jimmy walked up in the top of the 9th and showed everyone why he got benched today. Fuck this team, they’re horrible.
Make an entry about Roy Halladay. They shouldn’t have went after shitty ass Blanton so fast. We could have had Halladay, and I called it weeks ago.

I don’t wear a “F-YOU” shirt like many classless Philly fans, I don’t swear at the games, I don’t fight and despite Don M’s claims, I do not live in Jersey or look like a Gotti.
