Gamenight: Phillies (44-39) At Braves (40-43)

The Phillies return to National League play, and not a moment too soon. The Phils went a horrible 4-11 in Interleague play, culminating in a lifeless 5-1 loss to Texas. The Phils lost every Interleague series and are now just 0.5 games ahead of the Marlins in the division. Awesome.
Of course, coming back to the Senior Circuit isn’t all fun and games. Now the Phils have to play 10 games against three of the league’s best/most frightening teams: Atlanta, New York and Saint Louis. It starts with a three-game set in Atlanta against Charlie Morton. No, not Charlie Murphy, but Charlie Morton. He’s a right-handed rookie who was lit up considerably in the Minors. His ERA never went under 4.29 (how do you move up with a bad ERA in the GCL?), yet he found his way to AAA and put up a shocking 2.05, putting him in the Majors with the Braves. As usual, the Braves find a guy with a very down-homey name and somehow, he’ll turn in a fine season. He has a 4.24 ERA; oddly enough, he’s the second guy in a row the Phils are facing with an ERA of exactly 4.24.
Kyle Kendrick is coming off possibly his career-best start, an eight inning masterpiece against Oakland, one of the Phils three wins in their last 12 games.
By the way, the whole National League has played poorly lately. Only Saint Louis, Cincinnati and Houston have winning records in the last 10, and barely. Yeah, the AL killed us this year.
Phillies: Kyle Kendrick (7-3) 4.59 ERA
Braves: Charlie Morton (1-1) 4.24 ERA
Gametime: 7:00 p.m. EST
Weather: 81, sunny
Lineup: Rollins/Victorino/Utley/Howard/Burrell/Jenkins/Feliz/Ruiz/Kendrick

Your gamenight beer: Here’s a good summer beer that we might need because it’s strong and will let you forget this team’s really, really poor play. It’s Farmhouse Saison by Hennepin, a New York brewery. This one is delicious. It’s very possible after this game you’ll want to go into some farmhouse and sit alone for hours at a time. Not that I ever did that. ….
Go Phillies!

I get to open the comments just like at the constitutional convention. Lets trade for someone like arroyo, or harang. We don;t have the prospects to get sabatia

Just for kicks.. since Myers was the #12 pick in the 1999 draft, I looked it up… our first 2 picks were a Pitcher and an Outfielder..
At #12 we took Myers… Alex Rios went #19 to the Blue Jays.
At #63 we took OF – Jason Cooper… John Lackey went #68 to the Angels

And Shane swings at the 1st pitch. I’m sick of this 1st pitch swing shit, especially against a guy you’ve never seen before.

It’s great to watch the NL Phils again. 4-0, 5 straight hits – hopefully the last 2 weeks have been just an AL mirage.

Is anyone else watching this game on mlb gamecast?? Did Ozzie Smith talk for 10 minutes straight or what? Unbelievable! What the hell was he even talking about?
I love hearing the dejected Braves announcers as the Phillies bash them. It’s too bad Ozzie just kept talking and talking and talking..

The only question is: will Feliz or Ruiz ground into a DP

Yeah, AL mirage sounds about right, but here’s the problem…you have to face an AL team in the WS. If we can’t beat the AL we can’t win the WS. No NL team can win the WS unless it’s a fluke because the AL is far superior. Even the Royals beat up pretty bad on the NL.

Bronson Arroyo gave up 10 runs in one innings. I dont even want anyone on my team who gave up 10 runs in one innings

nice to see them reasserting their dominance over the garbage national league east.
a nice performance by kendrick, who contunally shows why he is not tradeable.
i would trade none of our top prospects so you can have them available to you next year to actually play for this team.
just put together the best package you can without dipping into that and get the best guy you can without jeopardizing the future at all.

geoff jenkins should be just released. what a worthless player. the bases are loaded! get the bat on the ball and get at least just one guy in.

Geoff, I actually blame Charlie for that one. Who gives a guy a 3-0 green light with the bases loaded?

Honestly, I can’t decide which Geoff is more frustrating; the highly paid, under-achieving outfielder or the loud mouth, over-reacting armchair GM.

fyi, this probably means nothing, but yahoo has durbin listed as the starter for thursday.

It’s ashame he let up those 2. I wanted to see another 8 inning 0 runs outing for him. Watch his ERA plummet to a low 4. Kendrick is shaping up to becoming a solid #3.

Manuel already said Durbin isn’t starting.

Hahahaha fair enough, Keith.
Random fact that you all probably care nothing about but I’m saying anyway: I’m pretty sure my boyfriend got me a jersey for my birthday, a really nice one but I’m not sure which!
OH and have any of you been to Wrigley? Did you like it?

Better make sure left-handed reliever is still on our wishlist. romero has declined of late. need more if you expect to go anywhere in the playoffs
