Gamenight: Phillies (44-39) At Braves (40-43)

The Phillies return to National League play, and not a moment too soon. The Phils went a horrible 4-11 in Interleague play, culminating in a lifeless 5-1 loss to Texas. The Phils lost every Interleague series and are now just 0.5 games ahead of the Marlins in the division. Awesome.
Of course, coming back to the Senior Circuit isn’t all fun and games. Now the Phils have to play 10 games against three of the league’s best/most frightening teams: Atlanta, New York and Saint Louis. It starts with a three-game set in Atlanta against Charlie Morton. No, not Charlie Murphy, but Charlie Morton. He’s a right-handed rookie who was lit up considerably in the Minors. His ERA never went under 4.29 (how do you move up with a bad ERA in the GCL?), yet he found his way to AAA and put up a shocking 2.05, putting him in the Majors with the Braves. As usual, the Braves find a guy with a very down-homey name and somehow, he’ll turn in a fine season. He has a 4.24 ERA; oddly enough, he’s the second guy in a row the Phils are facing with an ERA of exactly 4.24.
Kyle Kendrick is coming off possibly his career-best start, an eight inning masterpiece against Oakland, one of the Phils three wins in their last 12 games.
By the way, the whole National League has played poorly lately. Only Saint Louis, Cincinnati and Houston have winning records in the last 10, and barely. Yeah, the AL killed us this year.
Phillies: Kyle Kendrick (7-3) 4.59 ERA
Braves: Charlie Morton (1-1) 4.24 ERA
Gametime: 7:00 p.m. EST
Weather: 81, sunny
Lineup: Rollins/Victorino/Utley/Howard/Burrell/Jenkins/Feliz/Ruiz/Kendrick

Your gamenight beer: Here’s a good summer beer that we might need because it’s strong and will let you forget this team’s really, really poor play. It’s Farmhouse Saison by Hennepin, a New York brewery. This one is delicious. It’s very possible after this game you’ll want to go into some farmhouse and sit alone for hours at a time. Not that I ever did that. ….
Go Phillies!

When did this turn into a site where we sing songs, hold hands, and then give each other hugs? Phil sucks, Chris M is mean, Geoff is dumb …..
kidding!!!!!!!!!! I enjoy this site so much because being in NC it gives me people to talk to who are die-hard fans and I can relate to. So tahnks to all for their comments, even if I do not agree.

I live in Orlando and have 0 Phillies friends except my Dad who lives in Jersey. It’s just nice to have company to watch the game.
This place is like an online bar, you know? Some dudes get drunk by the third inning (chris maybe) and misspell everything, some dudes say stuff like “that whippersnapper Howard better not stare at his homerun” and there are dudes who are constatly negative and sarcastic (like me). It’s great to be here.
Thanks everyone.

isnt harang also signed reasonably for two more years with another option. 11mm next year, 12.5mm the year after, and an option that increases to 13 id he goes over 200 inning in 2010.
ill take that contract
wow, mitch said jenkins changed his aprroach. is he changes his swing maybe hell be not totally worthless. he hit the ball tonight, thats a plus.
ill bet the philies go on a rampage now they they are back in their comfort zone against NL garbage pitching

oh and by the way TJ Bohn this year at AAA is batting .200 in 160 ABs with 3 HRs and 8RBIS. Tell Me how that would be better then Jenkins

Choosing the best and worst poster is a challenge. What do you value in a poster? I personally prefer short, precise quips. And 0 critical thinking. That’s a key.

Did I call him a redneck? I remember calling someone a redneck recently. Maybe it was on here?

Snelling possibly could be but we are kind of stuck with Jenkins and hopefully with this new batting approach that Charlie has given him he will get out of this slump.

haha I think it was me. I called someone a redneck that was from the south and doesn’t get to watch the Phillies that often and was disagreeing with me about something. It was probably NC Jason.

Phil it was me but as we squared it on that thread I am from Philly. Isnt being a good poster like being the best class D player – you still suck

yeah the first order of business is to get So out of here. totally taking playing time away from players that have a future in AA or AAA. hes TOTALLY worthless
jenkins is still a bad signing though. no reason to sign him. hes the old overpaid junk that im talking about. changing his swing will help him not completely suck when hes up there.

I know he is at AA but with him playing college ball and everything, I think that Jeremy Slayden could help us in the outfield as a 5th OF if we wanted to

Yeah, my bad. I think I was really drunk that night and you insulted my intelligence. I also really dislike dumb white people and the south has a lot of dumb white people.

speaking of overpaid junk – that is one of the problems with baseball right now, half the league is overpaid pieces of junk anymore, so every team is always going to have that

even steve susdorf, senior from the national champion fresco st bulldogs, 19th rd pick, will help us more than so taguchi or even geoff jenkins

No worries, I do not take things on this site that seriously. I am on board with hating dumb white people – I just happen to work and go to school at ECU. But I thought I was funny.

Keith – but that is the way right now, the contract Silva signed with SA talk about paying a lot for junk…

i thinkt he ke to a good 5th outfielder would be somebod with not great future bc i dont want him to loose valuable playing time since most of the time its for running and defense, but someone who could handle a bat when needed a bunt of importand sac fly or something, and someone who could handle this role .usually a vet bc its a tough role

And because people pay a lot for junk the ones who are good get paid 20x what they are worth

I have family in S. Florida. My uncle from S. Florida chew snuff and claimed last year that the Rox were going to sweep the BoSox and that Papelbon is the most overrated closer in baseball. I mean Papelbon is overrated, but he made it out to be that Papelbon was just straight up bad.

i know hes done well for the most part, but why do we need 39 year old rudy seanez, seriously.
eric bruntlett is only 28, but brad harman offers more promise than he does. bruntlett can play every position but catcher thats why hes on the team
tom gordon has had a great career, hes still got the talent, but hes old and injured and makes 5.5 mm a year.
jamie moyer is a revered figure, still performs well, should be a pithcing coach, but he should retire after the season. let him ride this year out and then hire him as a coach.
so taguchi, geoff jenkins as noted.
clay condrey is 32. what the hell does he offer?

I wish we just woulda spend more and got Rowand. Shoulda given Rowand 5 years 55 million. He may have taken the 1 million a year pay cut to stay in Philly. It was the number of years, not the amount he was getting paid.
