After a miraculous win in game one, the Phillies look to take the three-game set with the Mets tonight.
Welcome Back, Brett: Brett Myers returns to the Phillies rotation after being sent down to the Minor Leagues July 1. He had four starts down there, and each was good, but not great. We’ll see how the fastball is doing when he faces David Wright, Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran and the like.
Not The Maine Man: John Maine is scheduled for the Mets, and he’s been atrocious lately. He has given up 14 runs in his last four starts, never once getting out of the sixth inning. One of those starts was against the Phillies, and though he gave up one hit, it was a three-run home run from Ryan Howard.
Collpase Continued: The Mets should have a skip in their step to avoid another monumental collapse like they had last night. What the Phillies must do: Hit early and hit hard.
First Place: It’s kind of on the line tonight.
Phillies: Brett Myers (3-9) 5.84 ERA
Mets: John Maine (8-7) 4.22 ERA
Gametime: 7:05 p.m. EST
Weather: 80, cloudy
TV: ESPN
Lineup:
MLB TV
MLB Gameday Audio
MLB Gameday
Your gameday beer: Since Brett Myers is back tonight, and we want to give him the benefit of the doubt, here is Pranqster, in his honor. It’s a tasty Belgian-style Strong Pale Ale. Eat some linguini with shrimp tonight. I just hope the Pranqster himself can go seven and give up as little as humanly possible.
Go Phillies!

Fans in the UK watching on channel 5 give a holla… Good luck to Brett
On a random have you seen the army are now not allowing Lion’s linebacker Camball to try out for the team after allowing him to be drafted. Sad sad state of affairs… PR blunder if there every was one!

I LOVE Burrell in the 3 hole. Howard likes to drive in runs and hit with runners on base.
Q- What do Pat the Bat do better than anyone on the team?
A- Get on base.

I like it. For some reason I really like Utley at 2 and Burrell at 3. Starts the game off on a good note.

Burrell in the 3 hole is a no-brainer.

Why has it taken Manual 150 games to realize this?
With Utley’s power numbers approaching normal, he’s definitely our nest 2 option.

Grrrumpy Miner – Your fellow “fans” aren’t here yet, you either have to wait until the Mets take a lead in this one or better luck tomorrow night. By the way they don’t come here to talk baseball anyway, just to celebrate premature then leave before the party’s over.

I absolutely hate having them here. As I pointed out this morning, there were no phillies fans talking smack on metsblog last night. Let that be a lesson to you aholes cheering for the team in Queens.

How about going out on a limb. I predict 8 innings of shut out ball.

If I were to make a prediction, I would go for that one Joe. I think he’ll have a great game.

you wouldn’t happen to be J.D. Durbin, would you? If so, good to know you’re still alive.

Hopefully Brett realizes he’s showcasing himself tonight and a great start might get him traded. Then we can enter the Happ era.

If Brett pitches well, it’s like damn, do we really want to trade him? I would.. Happ has been great for 2 months.

I think we’ll be able to tell how he’ll do as we watch his mechanics. Watch his head, it’s gotta end up going towards the catcher, not first base.

Griffin, You realize I have caused the name Griffin to become a family name with Durbin.
I gave Chad the middle name Durbin, and his son’s middle name is Griffin.

i dont think a trade of myers is what we need. a recent interview went like this:
reporter: brett what did you learn again in the minors, what did those coaches teach you or help you out with
myers: they told me what i had become
reporter: what was that:
myers: you cant print those names
brett’s problem has been his head. if he really got a reality check in lehigh valley(where the birds are starting their run to the super bowl as we speak) i think we can start to expect a new myers. one that is going to help lead this team back to the playoffs this year!

Speaking of Lehigh.. have you guys seen what Mcnabb said? He’s been running his gator and it’s awesome..
“We beat the Cowboys last year, and we should have beaten them in the first game,” said McNabb, apparently not afraid to provide a little bulletin board material for the folks training in Oxnard, Calif. “The Redskins, we should have beaten them the first time. The Giants, we should have beaten them both times.”

I am completely perplexed. Are there no mets blogs on the internet? I understand every once in a blue moon its fun to jab at the opposition but wouldn’t these muts fans want to read news/opinions about their own team. I don’t get it. If I want to find out what we are doing at the trade deadline I don’t read a padres blog. I guess its possible given their compromised intellect and the “kid gloves” treatment given to these jerks by others on this site that they think this is actually metsnation.com. I think if we sold tank tops, faux gold jewelry, fitted hats to be worn sideways, and “bad company” box sets, these guys would never leave this site. So please everyone, stop coddling these morons and urinate on their emotions like they saturated their pants last night when the three-headed- loser came out of the bullpen last night. Everybody wants to make nice with these short bus riders, but don’t forget that these are the same jagoffs that buy two tickets for 150 bucks at cbp on stub hub, drive two hours to the game, then get kicked out in the third inning for trying to fight a 9 year old. Take no prisoners phillies fans and tell these “carls” where to find the aqua teens.

Mr. Durbin, I was not aware of that. Not only can you probably pitch better than J.D. Durbin, but you possess awesome naming ability. I salute you sir.

I also felt for Mr. Myers, and thought an 8 inning shut out for the Phil’s would be a great plus as long as we have scored more than 1 run going into the 9th.

Danny, apparently a NY news paper said that he was holding back and probably could’ve came into the game lastnite. Wagner said he was going to make that reporter appologize to wagner himself and the team. I’d love to see that shit happen.

I am really nervous about the 1st inning…that was Myers go-to blowup inning. I think a lot will be told in the bottom of the 1st.
