Just to clarify, that was a different fred spreading manny rumors earlier. I don’t want people to start thinking i’m an idiot who spreads rumors that aren’t true, that aint cool. Pat the Bat is better than Manny anyway, and he dosn’t have an attitude problem. Also there’s a chance Burrell re-signs, Manny won’t.

LGM, for argument’s sake Chipper Jones hits the market right now and the Braves want David Wright. Straight trade. Chipper Jones, one of the best hitters in the game period. Future HOF. David Wright isn’t even fit to wax Chipper’s eyebrows. Do you trade for him? Sure, you’ve got an “All-Star” third baseman who is younger, loves playing for your team and in your city, is a well-respected member of your clubhouse, makes less money and your bullpen looks like shit but you know, this is Chipper Jones we’re talking about. Dude hits the baseball like Doc hit the pipe. You know Chipper wouldn’t have stared at strike three like Beltran against the Cardinals. What do you do?

are you guys really serious about acquiring manny ramirez? put down the crackpipe. there is absolutely no reason what so ever to even think for two seconds about picking up manny ramirez. over the past full year pat burrell has been much more productive player than manny. and you can’t play either of them in right field. so why are you even discussing this idea? just because he’s a big name and he might be available? its stupid as hell and this is a waste of time even discussing

assuming both players put up similar numbers the rest of the way and the phillies make the playoffs. Who would you rather have playing left field for game 1? The answer is Manny, and since both players are free agents its almost irrelevant who is younger, both would sign elsewhere.

but your not making the playoffs so I guess its a moot point. At least the Soul won, even Phillie deserves a championship every quarter century

LGM, you’re completely taking it out of context. No one says that Manny isn’t one of the best hitters to play the game. We’re saying it’s not an improvement to the team because, this year, right now, it’s a wash and we’re not going to resign him because we need starting pitching.

Unlike some teams I can think of, our outfielders are actually producing and this isn’t a glaring need for our pennant race.

Manny is always great in the playoffs. He’s incredible, but Burrell is having a better year and is 5 years younger.

comparing Manny and Burrell is laughable. Manny is one of the top 5 right handed hitters of all time and has the most career post season homeruns of anyone all time, not to mention 2 world series rings and a world series MVP. If you guys dont think thats a good trade for your ball club than you havent been watching baseball the last 10 years. Manny was brilliant during last year’s playoffs.

Fred, Manny is slated to make 20 mil next year which is where that number came from. I wasn’t drawing up a contract. My point is that I would rather spend that kind of money on an ace and not a bat.

I’m 35 years old. I’ve been following baseball since I was 10 years old. In 25 years, I have NEVER heard more people refer to smaller fields as a “bandbox” as I have in the past few years. Sure, you can Google and find that etymology of the word dates to a John Updike piece from 1960 but you’re lying to yourself if you don’t think it recently has become a descriptor of choice for the blog / fantasy / weekend sports radio host.
