Congratulations! The Phils Are In First By 1/2 Game! Wonderful! Celebrate!Rejoi…..Wait,its July 30 NOT September 28th.This Mets/Marlins Series Had a lot of Meaning.SURE My Amazins lost 2 of 3…..BUT Amazins fought back and eventhough they lost,they NEVER gave up and battled to the bitter end.This Mets/Marlins series showed the Marlins are for real,Now with “Manny being Manny” it could lead to a distraction for them or it can put them over the top.The Mets have turned and transformed themselves into a clutch gritty team.The Phillies have a Monster Line-Up when they are on all cylinders,yet the starters are not exactly Cy Young,Tom Seaver,Eddie Mathews,steve Carlton….you get the point.The NL East is going to come down to the last weekend and its going to hurt 2 other teams,…..UNLESS the Brew crew really falter and the NL Central is not as dominant.So Enjoy first but remember……Phils/Mets/Marlins are in for the fight of their lives:and yet whoever wins,deserves to be in the playoffs.

trade Toronto happ, carrasco, donald and marson. They need ss and catcher and our 2 best pitching prospects dont hurt. Toronto has ZERO position players in the infield…they wont win with what theyve got and might sell doc to rebuild quickly

Ok, yea, you just don’t understand baseball. Does this team worry me? Sure. However, THEY’RE IN FIRST PLACE. You’re probably the only person that would describe a first place team as underachievers? What more can you achieve? Super First Place? This team has weaknesses, yes. Hitting isn’t one of them. This offense has been spotty — did you think they would sprint from April to September? This team has lost many more games due to shitty starting pitching than it has from our All-Star second baseman and MVP shortshop fading in and out.

Who do I suggest we get? A pitcher. Do I know who the best available is and what it will take to get them? Would I like Roy Halliday? Sure. Is it possible? Beats me. I’m not a general manager and neither are you but, I do know that making a move, just to make a move defys all logic and sensibility.

Your scenario: We trade three top prospects for Manny. We win two more games than we would have because he lights up Billy Wagner. We go to the playoffs. The Chicago Cubs tag Brett Myers for six runs in the first inning of game 2. They follow suit with Blanton in game 3. We exit the playoffs. Manny re-signs with a major-market AL team for 3-years 55 mil. We have an empty farm system and still no pitching. Glad we made that move to really smoke that hot shit NL pitching like Scott Olson and John Maine in 2007.

So who do you suggest we get? There isn’t any pitcher of value we’ll get because we have nothing but trash to offer. Better to get someone to stir up this lethargic bunch of underachievers and strikeout artists. Or maybe we should just keep beating the Nats and Braves of this world while getting our butts kicked by any better than average NL team and getting trashed by every AL team. Face it – the Phils aren’t going anywhere.

Because the 2004 and 2007 Red Sox had everything to do with Manny and nothing to do with Curt Schilling, Pedro Martinez, or Josh Beckett.

Joe Blanton and J.A. Haap will both have WS rings with Manny in left field, makes total sense.

Fred, do you understand the game of baseball? Do you not understand that we’ve led the NL in runs scored the past two years? Do you not understand that we have THREE players with 25 or more home runs? Our first baseman leading the league in RBIs? What is M. Ramirez going to add to this team that will give us a World Series? We lose games 10-12 instead of 8-12 when Brett Myers and Joe Meatball lose their marbles in the 4th inning? We have, without a doubt, the worst starting rotation of any of the division leaders. So yea, lets give up all of our chips to acquire a hit machine rent-a-player and we’ll waltz into the playoffs with the feared lineup of King Cole (and Jaime Moyer and Kyle Kendrick).

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. This race will go down to the wire. I’m not too sure about the Phillies, but I know the Mets’ schedule is rather meager in strength from this point forward. The NL East will most likely be a rollercoaster ride for Mets, Phillies, and Marlins fans.

We it feels good to be back in 1st hopefully we can keep swing the bats and get the sweep tomorrow and continue to play good heading to St.Louis this weekend…The Marlins trading for Manny really isn’t a good trade for them they already got home run hitters that play horrible defense they need pitching.

as far as manny is concerned? no. nor should he. nor should he give up the farm or other starters just to buy a rent-a-player for two months. if a good deal comes along, by all means take it, but don’t get swindled either. being an MLB GM is a bit harder than you apparently think it is.
