Left-handed reliever Ron Mahay could be on the verge of heading to the Phillies.

According to clubs that have been speaking with the Royals, they’ve been having extensive conversations with the Phillies about a trade that would send Mahay to Philadelphia for shortstop prospect Jason Donald, a member of the U.S. Olympic baseball team.

It’s believed that as many as 10 teams have contacted the Royals about Mahay, who is signed for next year at $4 million. Most of them have come away with the impression that the Royals aren’t motivated to trade him. But in Donald, the Phillies have a commodity for which Kansas City has been searching aggressively. So the fit appears better with the Phillies than with any of the other teams on the Royals’ list.

The Phils need to look to unload Myers. I suggest a Myers and Ruiz to the Tigers for Pudge. Maybe phils throw in a low level prospect.

Pat Burrell, the Philadelphia Phillies’ left fielder, is batting .277 with 26 home runs, 61 runs batted in, a .400 on-base percentage and a .585 slugging percentage. Burrell’s statistics are almost identical to those of Ramírez, a left fielder who was hitting .302 with 19 homers, 65 RBI, a .400 on-base percentage and a .531 slugging percentage before Monday night’s game.

In addition, Burrell is not as divisive a personality as Ramírez, who has infuriated Red Sox ownership with his latest antics.

Hopefully, this provides a reality check for baseball fantasy addicts. (chuckling)

All im saying is that there needs to be a steady approach to the way fans look at prospects.. you can’t overvalue or undervalue them, because nobody knows.

Because Geoff thinks the Yankees prospects were overrated, doesn’t mean that the Pirates would want to give us Jason Bay for Bastardo (who came out of nowhere this year before getting injured) and a couple of crappy prospects..

I think we all agree that EVERYONE besides Carrasco and Marson should be available… BUT…. to get anything legit in Return (like this Pirates deal) you would surely have to give AT LEAST one of those guys up

and Nady is no Jason Bay either…

Only 3 of those guys ranked in the top 100, Carrasco was the highest at #54… Marson was #8, JUST this year moving ahead of Jaramillo… Donald isn’t on there, but some of you think he can take Rollins place with no problem…

Rowand: .288 avg, 43 runs, 9 HR, 55 rbi, 2 Stolen Baes, 3 caught stealing

Victorino: .283 avg, 66 runs, 8 HR, 35 rbi, 25 Stolen Bases, 6 caught stealing

Both players have a .350 on-base-percentage.

Victorino has a higher fielding percentage at .995 to .989… only 1 errors to Rowands 3..but Rowand has more chances..

Victorino is younger and makes $410,000 ….Rowand makes $4 million this year, and $60 Million over the next 5 years.

Sounds like the Phillies were pretty smart in that decision.

even our prospects are better than that. thats excluding marson and carrasco. marson is NOT going anywhere, i can guarantee that.

If you were the Pirates, would you trade Bay and Gabrow for junk????

Again, if he was slow like Rowand, and had to dive for balls to catch them… he would win gold gloves too…

***With a couple of VERY, VERY good starts in between though.. but he isn’t steady enough to be anything over a #4 guy in a rotation..

My point on Happ was that most STUD pitchers tend to get called up in their early-20s… not their mid 20s… he turns 26 in October. I think he’s good, and did a nice job in his starts this year, but I don’t expect anything special from him

Bay and Grabow would be great addittions but for what price? I’m sure they would cost probably two of Marson, Carrasco, Victorino, Golson, or Donald because we would be getting Bay for so cheap (I think 7.5 million in 09)
