Moyer Masters Marlins For 10th Time

Jamie Moyer riddled the Marlins yet again, limiting them to two runs on four singles in six innings in a 4-2 win. The win moved the Phils back into first place by themselves, as the Mets finally lost.
Moyer was awesome, striking out five and loweing his ERA to 3.78. Honestly, Moyer has to be one of the huge surprises so far; we thought he’d toil around the 4.80 area. Nope. Not now at least. His durable and sometimes dominant starts have made him a huge lifesaver in the rotation.
The unflappable Chad Durbin and JC Romero combined for the hold, setting it up for Brad Lidge, who looked stunning once again for his 21st save of the season.
Ryan Howard got the Phils on the board early with his 29th home run of the season, the league best. Pat Burrell (double) and Geoff Jenkins (single) combined for the second run. Jenkins also homered. It’s good to see him contributing to the cause. Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley also tag teamed for a run.
This was a solid win, up and down. Good offense early, great pitching throughout and shutdown relief work at the end. A good way to begin the second half and a good result: taking back the lead.

The ageless wonder, Jamie Moyer (9-6; 3.90 ERA) is such a treat to watch especially against an aggressive hitting team like the Marlins. He is now ten for ten (10-0) in wins against the Marlins. Besides Hamels,
the Master of Guile has been our most consistently effective starter.
He has allowed fewer than 4 earned runs in the past 8 starts.
I do hope the fans who have a passion for baseball know and appreciate what they have in Moyer and the artistry of his craft.
I see that Eaton goes to the bullpen as “long innings” reliever. I don’t know if this is a temporary assignment but the transition may be difficult as his career stats shows 193 starts in 195 appearances. If mechanics are his problem, is the bullpen the place to be to resolve it?
Blanton is expected to start the series opener against the Mets next Tuesday (July 22nd). And Myers goes Wednesday? This makes it all the more intriguing in a HUGH series.

If Myers and Blanton can pitch to their potential, Moyer keeps up his streak of Q’s, and the offense wakes up I can see a sweep unfolding.

More on Eaton soon. And I have to say, let’s concentrate on today. Let’s get some runs for KK.

Is it silly to admit that Jamie Moyer is my favorite Phillie?*
Seriously, the guy is as old as Moses and he still gets the job done. Has any major leaguer in recent memory done more with less than Moyer?

Big, clutch win coupled with a Mets loss. We’re back on top and those Mets are still lookin’ up!
