Nickname The Phillie: Rudy Seanez

Moniker, Posts
The Phillies have some fantastic nicknames. There’s The Bat (Pat Burrell), Hollywood (Cole Hamels), Lights Out (Brad Lidge), Chooch (Carlos Ruiz) and of course, the Flyin’ Hawaiian (Shane Victorino). But not everyone has a nickname, and we need to help.
An off-hand conversation about Chad Durbin brought upon the nickname “Dim the Lights,†which I think is a worthy moniker for the man. That’s why I think we here at the Nation need to do more of the same. This week I’m opening a feature called “Nickname the Phillie,†where you guys can determine the nickname of select Phils.
For the final installment of the series we’re going to Rudy Seanez. The veteran reliever was picked up off the bargain bin and has done a nice job from the front end of the pen. He is into mixed martial arts, gives great quotes and seems to be a generally cool guy. Currently he’s ailing a bit, but says he’s OK to pitch before the All-Star break. Here’s a guy who’s been around a long time and really deserves a nickname. Go to it (by the way, his middle name is Caballero).

Don’t be mean, Rudy should be one of the gang.
How about Rudy “where’s the switch?” Seanez to further the lights motif..

These posts have been giving the laughs at a time when Phils fans really could use one.
Nolan Ryan Howard, Johnny Wacko and The Who? are now part of my Phillies vernacular.

I love how the guy that is carrying this team on his back right now while the rest of the offense is in a slump is being made fun of.

Oh lighten up. Ryan Howard, his $10 million dollars and his 120 strikeouts can take some ribbing every now and again.

He’s been getting bashed like crazy all season, and at this point he doesn’t deserve it.

Rudy looks like an angry Native American. I think I have a baseball card of his from 1989. He’s still better than Arthur Rhodes and Roberto Hernandez though.
Also, did anyone see that Aquilino Lopez who was the mop up man for the Phillies a few years ago has re-emerged in the majors with the Tigers?! Good for you Aquafina.

Lopez has actually been doing a pretty good job w/the Tigs this year. They sent him to the minors once (to make room for Willis, I think) but he’s back up now.
Seems DD likes reclamation project pitchers. Sometimes he finds a diamond in the rough.

Yeah, that Galaraga guy came out of nowhere. He wasn’t even highly touted but he’s pitched well.

Yeah, good thing for them that they found Galagaraga – especially since they didn’t offer Durbin a large enough pre-tender contract to keep him. I’m sure the Tigs weren’t to concerned about losing him at the time because who would have expected Rodney, Bonderman, Bizardo and Willis to all tank/get injured. Oh, and longman Grilli to literally get booed off the team.

yeah, they’ve done an impressive job keeping it together through all those injuries. They’ve played alot better of late. I didn’t understand why they extended Dontrelle’s contract before the season though, that didn’t make alot of sense at the time and it looks silly now.

Griffin – I wasn’t happy with the Willis thing at all this past December. For one thing, his arrival forced Durbin’s departure (which really pissed me off) and heck – if Willis was struggling in the NL, why did they think he’d be an ace in the AL? No offense to the NL…but come on! Anyways, all is ok except Illich’s pocketbook. Durbin is with the Phils (yeah!) and the Tigs found a good rookie.
Sorry to the others for the off-topic rant…

PhillyGirlinMichigan- The Tigers injury bug has caused the unfortunate employment of Casey Fossum. Something that no one in the greater Detroit area can be happy about (except for home run souvenir seekers).

This guy legitimately qualifies for “Johnny Wacko.”
I forget the topic, but I think it was Geoff who said it. I forget who the Phils were about to play but there was the chance of violence. Anyway, Geoff said something like “I hope Rudy Seanaz beans that guy in the face with a fastball. He’s got like a blackbelt and few dozen tattoos. He’s totally nuts and can handle a fight.”
Something like that. Anyway, a Seanaz nickname that involves gonzo insanity has been needed since then. “Johnny Wacko” it may be.

Any way you try to pronounce this guy’s last name is a nickname. In fact, pronouncing it wrong on purpose is good for a laugh.
