The Phillies have some fantastic nicknames. There’s The Bat (Pat Burrell), Hollywood (Cole Hamels), Lights Out (Brad Lidge), Chooch (Carlos Ruiz) and of course, the Flyin’ Hawaiian (Shane Victorino). But not everyone has a nickname, and we need to help.
An off-hand conversation about Chad Durbin brought upon the nickname “Dim the Lights,” which I think is a worthy moniker for the man. That’s why I think we here at the Nation need to do more of the same. This week I’m opening a feature called “Nickname the Phillie,” where you guys can determine the nickname of select Phils.
First I’m offering Jayson Werth. His two-run home run with two strikes and two outs in the ninth was one of his biggest Phillie highlights. His three-homer game earlier this season was another. A guy with his substantial power, speed, defensive abilities and patience at the plate deserves a great nickname. Go at it — nickname the Phillie.

High-Net is definitely a Berman nickname. Jay Bird is a nice one, especially as his frame resembles Big Bird.
We got The Patient, Speed Stick, High-Net and Jay Bird as finalists, IMO. We’ll decide on the winner next week, and if another real good one comes out we’ll include it.

I was trying to come up with something referring to his hot mom, but all those nicknames just sounded gross.
“The Whammer” is pretty good.
Now that I’m thinking about it, “Hot Mom” isn’t bad either. Sure, he’s not a mom himself, but we’d all know who is being referred to.

That’s nice Werth Sucks. I’m sure you’re a Mets fan. Before running your mouth you should look at his home/away splits for homers. 13 away 11 on the road. Werth also crushes the ball and hits opposite field bombs. He has a lot more power than you think. Did you see the 400+ foot blast he hit in game 4? Probably not.

I think Jay-bird is a standard nickname for any “J” name. It’s catchy, but not very distinctive.
