I was trying to really come to a consensus (spell check) as to which pitchers we thought were currently the best in baseball..

And I’d really to do that so we all know where we judge prospects and who we think is overrated.. so that we all dont keep arguing over the same thing every few weeks…

Someone … Geoff… or Phil… should start a 1-10 list that we can start debating… such as how Volquez is good, but obviously not top-10…Harren is good, but I think Webb is better…etc and see where we want to rank Hamels… and Burnett…and Bedard etc

Hey im not bashing beckett at all. Carrasco reminds me of Beckett, that doesnt mean hell ever be as good, but it means he carries the same style.

well, now, cole hamels would be a 3 on the cubs and the brewers….though i personally think hes better than zambrano the ucb swould choose zambrano to start over him

This is like the day when you and Geoff tried to say that Hamels isn’t an ACE.. and that he would be a #2 or even a #3 on most AL teams..

Should we take Carrasco and Bastardo over Beckett too because of their age?

And god I forgot Peavy because he plays for the fucking Padres. Harden and Sheets would be in duscussion if they weren’t injury risks. I’d take King Felix and Hamels over Beckett because of their age.

I think the definites are:
Brandon Webb, CC Sabathia, Johan Santana, Jake Peavy, Roy Halladay, Tim Lincecum, Josh Beckett, ……..

Hamels, Lackey, Zambrano, Harren are all in the discussion..

Marmol is a reliever… and if you would take Jurrjens and Felix Hernandez…and Hamels OVER Bekett… then you should be drug tested ASAP..

I heard the Brett Myers was going to 15 games once in his career… he got close… he won 14 games one season.

Josh Beckett was absolutely FILTHY last year, 20-7, with a 3.27 ERA… and is untouchable in the post-season

I’d like to know which 10 pitchers in the AL you want over Josh Beckett…

he generally throws 90-93. good movement on the fastball, really good curveball when its working. but its his consistency and command he needs to fix.

If he can get his control down, then he will win 18 games at least once in his career. thats right.

Josh Beckett is a great pitcher, but he’s not even top 10 in the AL. Josh Beckett’s greatness comes from his ability to come through in big games. He’s not as great as everyone thinks he is. He was projected as a #2 as well.

from what i’m gathering from Carrasco, he operates in the 90-92 range consistently and can dial up to about 96 if needed with control. The thing that’s holding him at AA seems to be his offspeed command. I didn’t get to watch the future’s game on TV, but I read that he didn’t throw a single off-speed pitch in the future’s game. I can’t help but wonder if that’s due to his shoulder tightness.

And I think the Phillies should have included Marson and Carrasco, or some combination of the two, in a deal for Sabathia. CC would have given the Phils a legitimate 1-2 punch, both of which would have been lefties. It would have sent a clear message to the clubhouse that the Phillies were going all out for the title this year and energized that clubhouse. (In my opinion)

I don’t know if I’d go for Burnett. I think I’d bring up Happ after the all-star break and see what the kid has instead of Eaton before we make a deal. I think we can afford to wait on Burnett, because as far as I know, Burnett really isn’t in demand by many other teams. I also couldn’t help but laugh at the Rockies asking for Carrasco or Marson for Fuentes. Gillick wouldn’t give them up for CC and the Rox think we’ll included them for a new set-up guy? Hilarious.

“TOPS OUT AT” … he was regularly hitting 90-92, and I think i saw 94 once in his inning at the futures game. Now stretch him out a little and maybe in the 3rd, 4th innings he hits 94 regularly, which ain’t shabby… but he’s no Josh Beckett. I’d sell my soul to have Josh Beckett pitching on this team right now with Hamels as the #2

I think he was around #50 in terms of overall prospects in baseball… that was before the season started, I don’t know if that gets updated now that Jay Bruce, Ellsbury, Longoria, etc are mlb regulars..

I want them to keep Carrasco, because I think he’s going to be solid, but I think its going to take a while before he has a real impact
