bski, I saw that on Rosenthal this morning. I hope it’s true that there’s a better than 50 percent chance they keep Burrell. However, I have NO CONFIDENCE whatsoever in this front office in any capacity. If C.C. Sabathia were to come knocking in the off-season and say: “You know, I want to play in Philly. How about you give me a three-year deal for $3 million a year?” I’m fairly certain the Phils’ brass would find a way to fuck it up.

I’d love to see Howard get moved for top-of-the-line pitching or a three-way deal to get Holliday. I know K-How’s putting up the numbers again, but as Tim has pointed out, how many of his 30+ HRs and 100+ RBI came in clutch situations? How many were simply forgettable? Will he actually get $14 mil in arbitration with that pathetic-ass BA and insane strikeout ratio? (If so, forget “K-How;” we’ll have to nickname him “The Thief.”)

Georgie, you should think about splurging and getting tickets for the HOF club one day. Dad can sit inside in the AC if he’s uncomfortable in the seat. There’s also a handicapped section in the HOF club where he can sit in a cushioned fold out seat so he doesn’t have to walk up and down the steps to the seats. I used to work there and we would do anything we could to accommodate fans of all ages.

Jamie: Teams do not always make up games if they do not matter. Two years ago STL and SF didn’t make-up a game from the middel of the season because in the end it didn’t matter for either of them.

Lewisauce…..I found this about Burrell & Howard on mlbtraderumors.com: “With Ryan Howard looking at maybe a $14MM salary in his second year of arbitration, the Phillies could shop him this winter. Rosenthal lays out a scenario where they trade Howard and use some of those young players to acquire Matt Holliday. In this scenario Pat Burrell could be re-signed to play first base. I was surprised to see that a club official sees the chances of retaining Burrell as better than 50-50.”

Maybe Burrell isn’t leaving after all.

Umm…danny, even if the games get rained out, they still have to play them before the playoffs start. All teams play 162 games irregardless of their records or the weather. I do understand your point, but if we get our offense clicking, I’m not worried about them. Their bullpen is shit, and they’ll be without Wagner for most (if not all) of the stretch run. Even if he comes back in the last week or two of the season, during their hardest part, how “good” will he be with a month or two off? I think he’d be a little rusty, to say the least.
