Golson is good for a September call up, but he needs to be down on the minors working on his kk/bb ratio. He can’t do that in the majors since he won’t be getting many at bats. He’d just be riding the bench and not getting any better.

Let me apologize in advance for this, and I know it is in bad taste, but hopefully Eaton gets his pilot’s license and takes a plane into the side of a building before the September call-ups. You know they are going to bring him back up, because they aren’t going to be willing to eat his deal. If I ran the team he would have been DFA’d a long time ago, along with all the other bad contracts the Phils have signed (Jenkins, Taguchi and so on).

Thank you Tim for pointing out Golson. I have been saying all year that he should be up here all year in the 5th outfielder/pinch runner/defensive replacement role from the start. People have killed me for saying that, but I don’t care. This guy can only get better being around big league hitters and taking lessons from big league hitting coaches. Plus, we have zero speed off the bench. I’d like to see Golson raise his OBP, but I think that will come with big league experience.

I’d also like to see Jaramillo get a chance. Either Marson or Jaramillo would work for me – I guess they consider Jaramillo a little more major league ready.

Please don’t bring back Cervanek. I am tired of watching these re-tread, 30+ year old rookie journeyman coming up whenever the Phils expand the roster, or they suffer an injury. He’d already be a major leaguer if he could play. You don’t get more than one Chris Coste in a lifetime.

I wouldn’t mind having Happ, Carrasco, Donald and Slayden up here. I like Happ, I don’t really know anything about Carrasco and Donald, except what I read, and i have never heard of Slayden, which makes me indifferent.

Hopefully Eaton comes up and pitches well out of the pen. Then maybe someone will take a shot at him like a washington if we pay half his salary.

cervenak’s rbi single was, i think, his third major league at-bat. his first two were both deep fly balls.

Part of Eaton’s demotion was an agreement that the Phils would bring him back Sept 1. The Phils have to abide by that, as Eaton has over 5 years of Major League Service. If they didn’t, they would have to pay his salary anyways. Besides, he’s going to be mothballed to the pen and won’t see an inning of work, unless it’s a 20-2 drubbing and we need someone for mop-up work. Let’s be realistic here.

Tim, interesting read, but Cervenak didn’t get his RBI until his 3rd ML at bat. He pinch hit and went 0-1 on 7/11/08, and again on 8/5/08. His first hit and RBI came 8/6/08 against the Marlins. I know, call me anal.

I think they already said they don’t plan on brining up Marson and Donald…Happ and Carrasco should be part of the call up…Unfortunatly the Phils have to bring Eaton back up because they can’t really do much with him and he’s making $8MM,just don’t use him unless it’s their last option.

Benson was just recently released and he was on the 40 man roster so it would seem Carrasco could conceivably just take his place instead of dropping another player. Carpenter will most assuredly make the september call up list since he was brought up already for an inning of work.

Amaro must be smoking the pipe even considering bringing Eaton back! I don’t suppose he happend to watch his dreadful performance on the mound last night in Lehigh Valley! Expensive garbage is still garbage and if the Phils have any interest in winning, they should keep Eaton FAR away from the majors!

Other possibilities include Jason Donald and Marson (both AFL-bound), Brad Harman (bad year in Reading), Brandon Watson (not on 40-man roster) and Andrew Carpenter (recently sent down).
