i have a family of 4, i used to go to the park 4 to 5 times a year, nowadays for 4 tickets its close to $100 food close to 50 parking $20 gas for my car well you know how gas
prices are, if i spend half a weeks salary i feel i deserve the
right to boo when i want not crazy cursing boos but you get the point, Philadelphia is a blue coller city all you have to do is play hard and we will love you ask Aaron Rowand
J Roll is a primadonna as who cant handle it, he tries to be
a leader but he dont have it in him, he openes his mouth to make NY hate him now he managed to have his fans hate him as well, i think when you sign that contract you take everything that comes with it like the boos & cheers. Play Hard and grow up JROLL

Rollins doesn’t get it! people are losing jobs. Inflation is rampant. Naturally fans expect a lot from their sports heroes to feel better about their lives. I’ve been a Pat Burrel fan because he doesn’t complain even when he’s had some difficulty. that’s class. How can one accept an attitude by a player who obviously shows distress every day in front of his teammates, then complains that the fans are too tough. He should count his lucky stars that he has gotten this opportunity to earn more in one year than most people do in a lifetime. And those are the bench players!

Jimmy, stop complaining and do what it takes to fix your mental state and get back in the game as a professional and not an immature boy.
I have the right to say this because I’ve been a Phillies fan for 50 years.

I find it amusing that Rollins signed a contract extension when the team kinda sucked and NOW he’s unhappy? Ryan Howard has not escaped unscathed but he hasn’t really been thrown under the bus either. I mean, he set the record for striking out in a sport that goes back to the reconstruction era and its been my experience that the fans have exhibited a certain level of patience with him. Bottom line…..The Phils continue to be a public relations disaster.

As an older fan , I can remember back in the eighties hall of famer Mike Schmidt being booed so many times by Philly boobirds that he referred to them as “beyond help” and Veterans Stadium as a “mob scene uncontrollable.” Shortly after those remarks, when it came time to take the field he was wearing a fright wig and shades. It released the tension between him and the fans as they laughed and actually gave him an ovation. I wonder if Larry Andersen owned that very same wig? (laughter)

They also were saying that Jimmy feels very protective of Ryan Howard, and I guess he’s been getting booed more than some others , and Jimmy resents that. They were/are? roommates and very good friends, apparently he feels like a big brother to ryan. Not saying this is true, but that was one of their(DNL guys) possible explanations for Jimmy’s attitude.

Agreed – maybe someone making minimum wage at a shitty job could be excused for not giving 100%, being late, etc. But Jimmy’s making a little more than minimum wage- he has no excuse.

They just played an audio clip on DNL of Jimmy calling Best Damn Sports Show to elaborate on his comments about Phillies fans. I missed the beginning, but he didn’t really recind what he said, just softened it a bit, for lack of a better word.

I’d also like to point out to Janice that being a professional athlete comes with baggage. Hustle, commitment, integrity. Let’s tell your 3 year old the things Jimmy Rollins doesn’t do as a pro athlete. What a good role model. You should be upset that he isn’t setting a good example for your child, not bashing fans for acknowledging his faults. Part of his job is to entertain fans and be professional at all times. I guess he can show up late to work and that is okay in his books. C’mon, if Rollins wasn’t blessed with amazing abilitiy, he’d be just another average Joe in the world. These guys are humans too. As a mets fan…. i find it oddly similar to what the mets were saying about us in the beginning of the year. It got to the point that people were debating whether or not you are a real “fan ” if you boo.

Anyway,
I hate the phillies………but they scare the hell out of me.

I hate the marlins …….. but they wont be there at the end of the year….:)))

Everyone on this board wrote off the mets in April…..based on last year.

they dont have the pitching………and yet they are tied for first.

they dont have the heart of the phillies……………and yet they are tied for first.

They dont have the hitting, their too old, they have no bullpen (they have blown 20 saves…. 9 in the 9th inning)………..and yet they are tied for first.

I dont know what this means, only that the phillies and the mets will both play very good (at times) very bad (at times) and they will drive both sets of fans crazy. I respect the phillies, I just cant stand them. I want to beat the hell out of rollins and i hope utley goes 0 fer 200 against us. I expect you feel the same about us. Let the season begin!!!

Why aren’t people wig’n out on Myers’ f-bombs, Howard’s record setting strikeout pace/terrible fielding or Utley’s prolonged hitting slump?

This season is a collective effort on the part of the ‘stars’ on our team. The bottom line is the personal opinions of these players mean very little. The only thing we are really interested in is results. And when the results aren’t there – the inmates get restless. Always will be – always has been.

Actually who cares what Rollins thinks? What I do care about is his lack of hustle and laissez fair attitude this year.

Minus all of the peripheral issues, he’s having an average Jimmy Rollins year. Career average – .277 / Average this year .276; career OBP – .332 / this year – .344; career SLG – .442 / this year – .449 . Exclude last year’s stats as an aberration and he’s right on track for his career averages.

BTW – The only real winner if this becomes commonplace as far as I can see is the freakin’ agents. They’re as bad as crooked lawyers! Less years/contract equals more negotiations = more $$$$ in their pocket. Yes/no?
