Gamenight: Dodgers (65-62) At Phillies (68-59)

The Phillies couldn’t sweep the Nationals, but no worries, they’ll have a chance to get revenge from the four-game sweep they were handed by the Dodgers. The Blue is in for a four at Citizens Bank Park, which means a whole lot of Manny. Greg Maddux and Kyle Kendrick are the starters.
Greg? From San Diego?: Greg Maddux’s last start was against the Phillies, but as a member of the San Diego Padres. In that start he went seven innings and gave up just one run, but lost.
Ken-Not-Do: Kyle Kendrick has given up 13 runs in his last 7 innings (with one of those against the Dodgers). He’s been told to attack the plate more. Hope that works.
Not Great …: The Dodgers are 7-9 since acquiring Manny Ramirez … against everyone who is not the Phillies.
A Little Different: Finally Charlie Manuel breaks up Chase Utley and Ryan Howard. Pat Burrell is hitting third tonight.
Phillies: Kyle Kendrick (10-7) 5.01 ERA
Dodgers: Greg Maddux (6-9) 3.99 ERA
Gametime: 7:05 p.m. EST
Weather: 80, partly sunny
Lineup: Rollins/Utley/Burrell/Howard/Victorino/Dobbs/Jenkins/Coste/Kendrick

Your gamenight beer: It’s Friday night. This offense has been bad. Time to just break it open and forget everythingelese. Tonight, go with Olde English 800. Just do it. Pour it wide and take it in. Eat … whatever, French fries, potato skins, garbage plates. Who cares.
Go Phillies!

Probably cause Maddux would certainly stick him with an 0-fer.

i accepted charlie not changing the lineup around a few weeks ago, but now it’s just completely unacceptable. honestly, i mean come on now. it can only help this offense out – it certainly won’t hurt.

So, you’re saying it’s starting to look like another “maybe next year” for the Phils? What a shame, it seemed like we had all the tools to make it happen.

1-0 Mets after 1……….Phillies better find a way to get thru the Dodgers this weekend before the Amazins invade Philly. It might be ugly. NO I’m not saying the Amazins will win the NL East but keep this up,and it’ll be time to complain about McNabb and Labor Day is wright around the corner.

you know what? what they need to do is waive ryan howard and jimmy rollins and trade them for a bunch of players to be named later. mail it in, rebuild, come back stronger. yeah. and then demand immediate success.

This fall Burrell will be 32, Utley will be 30, Rollins will be 30, Howard will be 29 and Victorino will be 28. Isn’t it getting a little late to ‘build’ around these guys? When I think of building around guys, I’m thinking early to mid 20s not players hitting 30 or older.

well we could blow it ALL up….but victorino is cheap and still in his arb years.
utley makes 11mm next year and 15mm every year after that for the rest of his contract. jimmy rollins is an asshole who is signed cheaply for 3 more years and is intentionally tanking balls and at bats. pat burrell can play first base even though hes aging a bit. you need a professional, serious veteran on the team. howard is an asshole who is getting overpaid in his arb years and is so bad in the field that even though ive never seen pat play first ill bet hes better.
you know what? it may be a flip flop but those guys ARE getting old. new GM coming in. maybe wanna rebuild a little? other than jamie the pitching is all reasonably young in the rotation and the talented end of the bullpen. lidge is here to stay. durbin and romero are over 30 but are useful and signable. madson is going to be a free agent i think.
i think they can build around hamels, victorino, burrell, and the stars of the bullpen and go from there perhaps?….

Man, I love the NFL. Just love it. Love the Eagles.
I’d rank my sports allegiance as:
1. Eagles
2. Sixers
3. Phillies

What’s wrong with sitting our big guns for a game or two? What’s the worse that could happen? We lose a game or two? We don’t score any runs? Strikeout too much? Sounds like the same thing that’s happens to our ‘stars’ now.

As much as I resent Ryan Howard, the opposite field homeruns are so cool.

teams:
1…flyers
2…phillies
that never changes or waivers…
hate the nfl, apathetic/neutral towards nba (BUT love the new sixers GM, may start paying a little more attention to support them and reward them for their postive new look.)
sports for me
nhl
mlb
college fb
college baseball
college basketball
occasional premier league soccer/ europmean champions league
the rest i tune out for the most part
BUT its almost impossible to tune out the NFL because if you dont watch it people look at you like youre some kind of terrorist or space alien
also…ryan howard CRUSHED taht. damn.

as much as im not sure baout what to do with howard here…when hes hitting the ball the opposite way consistently, he really is the most dangerous hitter in baseball

I’ll say it again, Utley looks physically ill , I wonder if he’s a vegetarian? They always look anemic and tired.
