First place in the National League East is up for grabs tonight as the Phils and Mets meet in the first of a short two-game swing. The Phillies are coming off a sweep of the Dodgers; the Mets took care of business against Houston.
Vote For Pedro: Since returning to the Phillies from the DL, Pedro Feliz is hitting .357.
Vote For Pedro, Part II: Pedro Martinez gave up two runs off five hits in 5.1 innings against the Phils back in July. If you remember, the Mets broke out off Adam Eaton, but the Phils somehow clawed back before coming up short. Martinez had two strong outings against Pittsburgh, but gave up four Thursday against Atlanta.
Vote For Pedro, Part III: Left-handed reliever Pedro Feliciano has given up eight hits in 4.1 innings against the Phils this year, for an ERA of 6.23. As always, the Mets bullpen will be highly dissected in this series.

I won’t get my hopes up for tomorrows game. Just can’t score on Santana at this time of the year.. He’s amazing. But we needed this one for that reason.

WOW AC in NJ you impress me that you can make sentences “Insert team here” sucks,thats great.However,Mets fan here and will say this….Mets deserved to lose this game as the Phillies deserved to win it and tip My Mets cap to them.HOWEVER,I do wonder,after tonites game,is Larry Anderson STILL bitching about the umpires? PS – The phils ERA is 1/2 a run better at CBP than on the road. so eat it. it’s not a great hitters park, it’s a great home run park.

Hamels – 3.20
Myers – 4.49 (under 2.00 since returning fromt he Minors)
Blanton – 4.03 with the Phils
Kendrick – 4.87 (expected of a 5th starter)
Moyer – 3.54
And the bullpen ERA is around 3.50.

They’re in first place and have had first place for over 60 games this season. They obviously went somewhere, dude.
It’s okay if you’re in denial, but seriously, you’re better off spouting at the mirror or a pillow. All of you Mets fans have been saying all season about the Phillies pitching sucks. The Phillies pitching has been the strong point of the team and have ranked upon the tops in the National League.
So stop being delirious with dillusional thoughts.

myers’ AB was by far the second best thing he’s done as a phillie after clinching the division title. watching him dance around up there was amazing.
charlie’s comments postgame were great too. they asked him if he told myers not to swing no matter what, and he said “that’s what i told him. and then when he got back in the dugout, i said ‘see, you can follow orders.” and then he mentioned that they were joking about having myers show a fake suicide squeeze, and charlie said he couldn’t because no matter what victorino would break for home.
i’ll post more thoughts about this game tomorrow when i can wrap my brain around what happened. five and a half hours of baseball has me overloaded. what a blast though.

By the way, with Maine hurt, the phils rotation is better than the Mets. In fact, all aspects of our team are better than the mets: Rotation, Pen, Lineup. I actually dont think it’s much of a debate, maybe the lineup has the biggest reason for argument.

Hamels, Myers, Moyer. RIGHT NOW, I would take those 3. But you are right, it’s very close. The difference is in the bottom 2.
Kendrick and Blanton are better than Pedro and Insert 5th starter here.

PS, you have fun continuing to think that way. I bet its fun playing the “If I scream louder then you, that makes me right” card, but since its late at night, I’m going to bed.
And by the way, the Phillies came back from a 7 run defecit tonight against the Mets and won to reclaim first place. The Phillies also contributed to the most collosal collapse by a team in regular season history last September. Now those are FACTS!

Theres NO WONDER Mets starters like Santana and Pelfrey are looking for complete games,This “Poison Pen” STINKS and now everybody knows that including them.Also if Aaron Heilman is looking towards Free Agency and thinks he’s a starter…..ANY TEAM That signs him to start is a FOOL.That said,If you Phillies fans even think the Mets OR the Marlins are going to go quietly into the night,you BETTER think again.All 3 teams are going to be bloodied and battered and whoever wins this NL East is going to deserve it….NOW if The Phils or Marlins win,I’ll tip my cap to the victor….I sure hope you guys have the class and courtesy to do the same IF the Mets or Marlins win.BTW Danny,Happy Birthday,you got your wish.
