Gamenight: Nationals (44-81) At Phillies (66-58)

Back home, and they need these bad. The Phillies open a three-game set against the Nationals. The Phils bring Joe Blanton to the mound, while the Nats bring the great Jason Bergmann out to play. A sweep is practically necessary and the only thing accepted.
Tale Of Two Bergs: Bergmann allowed five runs in 5.1 innings in his first start against the Phillies, then allowed no runs in 7 innings in his second start. He’s been much better in the second half of the season, but got lit up (6 ER, 3 IP) against the Mets Wednesday.
Jeer?: Tonight is Jimmy Rollins’ return home since saying we fans hate them when they lose. Will the fans harass?
Cheer?: But tonight is “Campaign Cheer” night. We Should Be GM’s want everyone to cheer everything, no matter what. Will the fans abide?
Phillies: Joe Blanton (6-12) 4.79 ERA
Nationals: Jason Bergmann (2-9) 4.51 ERA
Gametime: 7:05 p.m. EST
Weather: 82, cloudy
Lineup:
MLB TV
MLB Gameday Audio
MLB Gameday
Your gamenight beer: Tonight we go Irish, and we go with Beamish Irish Stout, an excellent stout with little alcohol content but a bit of a chocolate taste. It’s good with anything spicy or rich, so have some Spanish rice and chicken, then wash it down with some chocolate mousse.
Go Phillies!

I don’t see us getting a sweep. We’ll take 2 out of 3 is my guess, anything less than that and you might as well shut the season down.

Between living in NYC and working long hours, I rarely get to see games live or on TV, but listening over internet radio and reading blogs like this give a very good idea of how this team looks. Over the past week, between the west coast swing and other factors getting in the way, I have just been looking at box scores and you can see just in the numbers that this team needs a monster kick in the ass or a fire lit under them. Something, or anything, needs to happen. A sweep combined with the Met’s blowing at least two of three to the Braves (Wagner done indefinatly) may be the thing. Either that or the good guys lose two of three and they limp to the finish line.

Does Jimmy automatically swing 1-1? In that count he’s like a slugger 3-0…

They did that on purpose so we couldn’t hear the boos.

I missed the first inning, what happened with the cheers/boos?

not sure chris, comcast totally showed an example of how they run our lives by playing some meaningless follow up interview of jimmy rollins in order to block out the boos.

people talk about how china is too fucked up to have olympics. the phillies and comcast censor jimmy getting booed?

In fairness Jimmy should get booed at the moment, you start disrespecting the game and you have to earn the respect of the fans back.

dude, america has been doing shit like that for 100 years. william randolp hearst invented that type of state/centrally-censored media pradigm.
im not suprised AT ALL that comcast did that. they at least admitted that he got booed really bad. the phillies are also PIPING in fake cheers because jimmys boos got silenced fast.

blanton better tighten up here. hed better cruise the rest of the way. you cant keep gravitating back to average. his era was at 4 even until, boom, gotta get that back up there…

WCW did the fake cheers during the 1990s on their wrestling broadcasts.
Yeah, I’m a dork like that to know such things.

up, get him out of here. this fucking guy. why do you have to be SO average. after 2 good starts, NO MATTER WHAT, he HAS to have 2 bad starts. it dosnt matter who its against either way, he HAS to balance it out. unbelievable. stop throwing shit over the heart of the plate!

YAY! They made something happen. Even if he woulda caught it I think Shane woulda scored. He’s so fast and he plows over catchers.

I guess even we can score when the other team is hand delivering you runs.

Wow he is fast!!! My boy is a mets fan and I am really starting to hate even watching this. The nats can not even catch a pop up and we are going to lose to them.

I’m not considering Lidge…he’s not a position player. Burrell has been slumping hard too other than this weekend. If you include Werth we have a consistent outfield. On paper we have the best infield in the NL, but it’s not going well this year. Well, the past 2 months.
