The Phillies got a big win from Jayson Werth’s bat last night, as they beat the Nationals 5-4. Tonight Brett Myers tries to continue his success in the second half. The Phillies are 1.5 games in back of New York going into tonight’s action.
Collin, Hey!: The Phillies faced Collin Balester before, just three weeks ago. Then he gave up just two runs over six innings. So the Phils offense had trouble with him. Yeah …
Big Moment Myers: Brett Myers will try to get his ERA below 5.00 for the first time since May 7. His ERA since his demotion: 2.48.
Same Old Lineup: Yet again, the slumping Jimmy Rollins will see the most at bat, at the leadoff spot, while hot-hitting Shave Victorino will hit sixth.
C’mon Get Happy: Pedro Feliz has been activated and is available tonight. Les Walrond has been sent down to AAA Lehigh Valley in his place.
Phillies: Brett Myers (5-10) 5.02 ERA
Nationals: Collin Balester (2-5) 5.06 ERA
Gametime: 7:05 p.m. EST
Weather: 87, sunny
Lineup: Rollins/Werth/Utley/Howard/Burrell/Victorino/Dobbs/Coste/Myers

Your gamenight beer: Surprisingly I haven’t offered Sam Adams Boston Lager yet. The real original of the Adams crew, it’s a fine-drinking lager that goes smooth, sits strong enough, yet can be had a couple times over. Maybe my favorite pure lager (sorry Yuengling guys, I have to concede to Boston here).
Go Phillies!

The Phillies 2008 DVD should be directed by David Lynch. What a surreal, f-ed up, few months this has been.

mets scored 5 in the first all with two outs. looks like we’re gonna need a win to keep pace again.

good opening tonight for brett myers. maybe he really is a second half pitcher…he has one year left on his contract so it wouldnt surprise me if they tried to keep him around another year.

That was Howard’s 15th E this season! I hope that is brought up come contract time.
Geoff, most of what was quoted in your link was said earlier, I saw it on BBTN last night. I wounder what players he tried to bring here? His buddy Dontrelle from FLA? Thank god we did not get him and the others? If they are that soft that they can not take being booed then phuck’em

It doesn’t matter who pitches against the Mets. We aren’t going to beat any good teams hitting like this.

Jimmy is by no means the most articulate guy and after this most recent debacle there’s no question he struggles with poor word choice…is anyone surprised that his “recruiting speeches” aren’t working? Money talks, Jimmy. There are plenty of other reasons people don’t want to come here…

Rollins’s comment are pointless – I am sure players on every team have tried to get their buddies and other players to come to ther ir team. What bothers me is Rollins’s point. What does he think he is proving by coming out and saying these things? This is only going to be a distraction further up the road.
I hope his point is that he wants out – which I would welcome – I hope he plays in North Korea

Something must have happened to change Jimmy’s mind about wanting to play here. He was fine last year, totally different this season, I wonder what it was?

Brett Myers has been just straight nasty after his “fun” little trip. He has been freezing guys all night, I’m loving it. As for J-Roll, I’m torn. Part of me wants him out of here but I know realistically that wont happen. I also know what he’s capable of so I would like him to turn that switch on.

brett has fixed himself definitely. he can stay now…
jimmy wont be here next year. BUT after this seasonm hes signed for THREE more years.
that tells me he wants out, and it also tells me…MEGA return. as much as i think hell decline and never regain his MVP form, he has a VERY team friendly contract. hes signed cheaply for 3 more years. he wants a new deal i think…he clearly wants the west coast…angels? oakland wont take him. dodgers? padres are shedding payroll. giants maybe.

If Myers can go 8 shutout I will be so happy assuming Lidge just flicks the switch again.

A little off topic, but Clay Buchholtz is supremely awful. 6.75 ERA now.
