The Phils road trip continues in Dodgertown, in this second game of a four-gamer against Manny, Kent, Ethier, Kemp and Co. The Phils lost Monday night, with Kyle Kendrick blowing up and the offense not doing enough on the national stage to win it. No worries, Cole Hamels is on the mound tonight. Right?
Lonely Cole: Hamels hasn’t won since early July. It’s time for him to get a W.
No Clayton: The Phillies have never faced Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw. The rookie has let up just one run in his last 19 innings.
How About That: Ryan Howard reached the 100-RBI plateau last night. He now has 453 RBI in 528 career games. Staggering.
Eastern Promises: As of the post, the Mets are tied with the Nationals; the Marlins are beating the Cardinals 4-3.
Roll Around: Jimmy Rollins is hitting third tonight, with Shane Victorino leading off. I can dig that.
Phillies: Cole Hamels (9-8) 3.35 ERA
Dodgers: Clayton Kershaw (2-3) 3.71 ERA
Gametime: 10:10 p.m. EST
Weather: 79, sunny
Lineup: Victorino/Utley/Rollins/Howard/Burrell/Werth/Coste/Bruntlett/Hamels

Your gamenight beer: Any beer that calls itself “Entire Butt” is good in my book. But Entire Butt Porter might be the greatest beer ever created. Full of taste, it goes down like water that was magically sprayed by the gods. So godly water, really. That’s the general focus of the discussion. What do you eat with this? Something with mild spice. Something that makes you want to run to the beer and enjoy every last sip. Something … well, something warm, is the gist of the explanation I’m making. Go with beef and peppers.
Go Phillies!

No, I’m not reaching at all. That statement you made 200 posts ago is what prompted me to start the argument. Don’t say stupid shit. Saying Utley is horrible in the field would be like saying Ryan Howard is a bad home run hitter.

What an awful offense. And the bullpen just can’t cut it without lidge. But boy, I am glad it didn’t go extras, since we had no bench players so Manuel could sub for Burrell. I hate a lot of things about this game. But god damn I hate charlie manual.

I liked Scully, never had heard him before. The Dodgers look like a fun team, like the opposite of our team.

If I were the Phillies rotation I’d just refuse to pitch. Tell them you want to be traded to offense that can hit the ball with RISP.

Phil – you are not reading what I’m saying. I know he’s a great fielder with great range. But he is making too many mistakes this year. God, some of you people just don’t listen at all.”
Phil – as you can see, you were responding to something that I blatantly had since amended. I had about 3 more posts like this one talking about how overall Utley is a good fielder.

Yeah, the Dodgers have a good offense now and it’s just going to get better when Furcal comes back. They have a good pitching staff too. They also have a great coach.

I really hate Manual about as much as the GMs hated Adam Eaton. STOP SUBBING FOR BURRELL IN CLOSE GAMES. DO NOT DO IT, and if you do, please get out and never come back.

Why the fuck was Taguchi in left field?I’m getting fed up with Charlie doing that fucking shit pulling Burrell out…But o’well it seems like were as bad as the Mets anymore,we get a quality start from our ace and can’t win (our bullpen ain’t near as bad as their though)…O’well at least football seasons starting soon because the Phils aren’t looking good.

The only reason you amended it was because about 30 seconds after you posted it he made that incredible diving play.

There’s something missing and I think it’s Rowand’s spark. Charlie’s going to lose the team with pulling Pat and I’m sure Myers isn’t the only one that’s giving him heat.

This team should have 75 wins right now. They squander so many quality starts. There is no reason this offense should squander a quality start unless it’s against someone like Brandon Webb, Johann Santana, or Jake Peavy.

Maybe they’re trying to get him fired and are playing like shit on purpose?

Phil, not true at all. I made the first statement hastefully b/c I knew of his high error count, and this is a goddamn blog after all, where you immediately post your thoughts. Once it became an actual topic of debate, I thought I made it pretty clear how I actually felt.
As a law student, I am pretty into following through with arguments once they usually start, so when you keep going back to 1 post i made before we even dove into the topic, it’s incredibly frustrating.

i can’t deal with the stress of watching these guys anymore – way, way too inconsistent and don’t take advantage of opportunities. They have 12 games in September against the Nats and Braves, but by then it won’t matter anymore…getting thru August is going to be a bitch for these guys.

What about Charlie’s bench coaches? I thought Gillick brought in all these guys (Jimy Williams, Davey Lopes, etc) to help Charlie make the right in game decisions…what’s going on with that?
Phils blow this season, they’ve got to fire the entire lot. (Fire Milt Thompson right now, tonight…cause the hitting is atrocious).

Then don’t say stupid shit. It makes you look stupid. Law students usually aren’t dumb, but you are proving yourself to be dumb. Now you are eating your own words in a way to try and not make yourself look dumb.

Bring Bowa back!

I guess the same hitting coach that helped this team the past couple of years is the reason they suck this year? It can’t be the players themselves, can it?

Milt should be fired for Howard’s ridiculous number of K’s alone. Love the guy, but he’s not cutting it.

You cannot bring Bowa back, but isn’t it funny how making the playoffs last year still comes back to haunt the Phils??? See, they don’t make it, they fire Charlie last year. Then, when the Yanks dumped Torre, IT COULD HAVE BEEN THE PHILLIES INSTEAD OF THE DODGERS!!!
i think we’ve also missed out on chances to woo Brian Cashman over here…

Please fire Charlie. Can anyone tell me about the game winning hit? Was it possible to throw out Martin? And the play that Howard botched on the Loney grounder? Should/could he have thrown to second?

Interesting point. Hell, I’d even take the over-coaching LaRussa. What I liked about Bowa was he has the same energy level as the fans. Charlie’s a little too “good ole boy” for me.

Phil, I didn’t say “stupid shit”, I posted a gross exaggeration. Read through every game post, and you can find comments along the same lines by frustrated fans everywhere (“kendrick sucks, howard sucks, etc.). I’m sure if you get into a real debate about those topics, they wont actually feel this way, it’s just a way of expressing frustration.
Once you actually get into a real debate where facts are analyzed (like we did) then the entire conversation is different.
You are the one coming off as a complete moron by not being able to understand this difference. It’s like arguing with a 6 year old kid, right down to the overusage of “dumb.” I guess the best retort would just be, “no, you’re dumb.” maybe that’s more along your level.

I remember going thru the 1980 playoffs and WS, practically had an ulcer by the end of the series, can you imagine what it would be like with this team?

Another reason to fire Milt Thompson: the players aren’t showing enough plate discipline at the right times.
Geoff Jenkins flying out as a pinch hitter on the first pitch w/two out and a man on…INEXCUSABLE.

The Dodgers bullpen blew a few games leading into this series, take a friggin pitch and work the count!
