Gamenight: Phillies (64-55) At Dodgers (60-59)

That wasn’t fun. The Phillies had a lead last night going into the eighth inning, but they lost. Cole Hamels was again denied double figure wins. Moreover, the Phils couldn’t stay the course; the Mets and Marlins are nipping on their heels, as they’ve been doing for months now.
Go Joe, Go: Joe Blanton pitched seven sparkling innings against the Pirates Friday night. But the Phillies offense decided to take one of their (seemingly) 40 vacation days.
Penny For Your Thoughts: Brad Penny, the former All-Star Game starter, has a career 3.33 ERA against the Phillies. He also dated Alyssa Milano.
Shane On You: Shane Victorino, who left the game early last night, is listed as day-to-day with back pain. Vic isn’t starting tonight.
Phillies: Joe Blanton (6-12) 4.71 ERA
Dodgers: Brad Penny (6-9) 5.66 ERA
Gametime: 10:10 p.m. EST
Weather: 80, fair
Lineup: Rollins/Werth/Utley/Howard/Burrell/Dobbs/Jenkins/Ruiz/Blanton

Your gamenight beer: Tonight we have Lagunitas’ Cappuccino Stout. Yeah, who doesn’t love a nice cappuccino at the end of a long day? Last year I was sitting in an Italian villa, sipping on cappuccino as the sun set and the stars began to burn in the expansive European sky. So get as close as you can to that with this wonderful drink. It’s a late one — eat a cannoli with this.
Go Phillies!

I definitely feel like a frontrunner with all the championships J-Roll has won us. This guy is worse than Dave Montgomery. I guess he thinks they won the world series last year when in reality they won a heaping pile of fuck off. I seem to remember a bunch of happy assholes greeting these ungrateful pricks at the airport after they got their doors blown off by the Crotchies. This guy is playing with fire. We can make it rain down on him worse than Chazz Michael Micheals at Grublets on Ice

Tim – We need a post on JRoll’s comments on “that damn sports show” today. He called phillies fans, “frontrunners.” This might not end well.

Phillies fans are frontrunners. Sure the new ballpark is always full but where were all the fans in the last 5 years at the Vet? In the years between 1997-2003 the Phils ranked a high of 10th and a low of 14th in attendance.
At least half of the fans at CBP are there for the party and not to support the team. How was attendance at the Sixers this year? Or last year? How about Temple football? That sure draws a ton of fans.
Face it, Philadelphia fans (like most cities) are frontrunners.

every city is like that. ESPECIALLY the trash in NY

Well Rollins in particular was complaining about the Boos, in case you didn’t see the interview. This is something a baby like Rolen would say.
Either way, this was a really really dumb comment by Jimmy, even if it has some truth to it. This is not the season to turn the fans against him, the way the team has underperformed.

Fred, that’s not what a frontrunner is. Frontrunners root for their team when their winning and then go root for another team when they’re not. When the Phils were losing, people didn’t want to spend their money to go see a team lose. But it doesn’t mean they were walking round the city wearing Braves/Yankees hats. Fuck Jimmy Rollins.

Really stupid comments by Jimmy. Sounds like he wants to be traded. Jimmy’s publicist is like “Oh shit….”

NEPA, excellent call. Just because fans don’t show up to see losing teams live, doesn’t mean they don’t care. Frontrunners are bandwagon jumpers (to other teams).

Stupid, Jimmy. We were all behind you when you were the MVP, and if that makes us frontrunners, fine. But, you showed us that you can play that well so we will boo you when you don’t play that well. I think he’s confusing frontrunner fans for an underachieving offense.

oh no, are philly fans going to boo another all-star out of town? Only if Howard Eskin tells them to.

I think Jimmy was confusing “frontrunner” with “fan.” All fans boo teams that suck. Grow the hell up and start playing.

J roll should go down to AA again. He can play in front of a few hundred people if he doesn’t like 45,000 “front runners” cheering for him.

“AA again” = when he was coming up.

Good first inning. So. what do we think of jroll’s comments. Is he baiting the fans and managment? Or is he just an MVP with a big head? I hate to not root for him but this attitude is making it incredibly hard for me to. I dont want him to poison this already fragile team.

How much weight goes Jroll carry in the locker room? Or is that irrelevant?

I don’t necessarily agree a frontrunner must root for another team when their team is down. A frontrunner to me is a person who roots and is gun ho for their team only when it’s winning.

I would be die hard for the Eagles even if they went 0-16… My buddy is a Dolphins fan and his interest rarely waned last year. I mean, they’d be down 35-7 at half time to the Pats, and he would click off the game and watch another on the ticket, but he would check back.

I refuse to believe that their is a major difference in way millions of people root for their teams. People are people. Philadelphia fans are no more front runners than Rockies fans or Giants fan.

Great at bat J-Roll! I hope he gets booed when he comes back home! Fucking asshole! I’ve always been with the Phils, during the good times and the MANY bad times! But if you talk shit like that to the fans, get the fuck out of town! I hope him and Howard are Yankees next year!

The NFL is also different. Only 16 games a year. We only get to watch the eagles 16 meaningful times per year (more w/ the playoffs), so even when they suck, you can better believe people will go, and watch.
A far cry from 162 games.
