After another series loss to the Marlins, the Phillies will try to pick it up against their bizarro selves, the 52-62 Pirates.
Here We Go Again: Need a reason not to watch this game? Paul Maholm pitches for the Pirates tonight. Remember him? He let up one run on two hits in a complete game win against the Phils in April. That game, oddly enough, was played after the worst day of my young life. So it can only get better, right?
Stepping Up: Chase Utley is carrying a 12-game hitting streak, during which he has hit three homers and driven in seven.
Bucc You: The Phillies are 16-12 against the Pirates since 2003.
See Sammy: Juan Samuel will be inducted into the Phillies Wall of Fame tonight.
Phillies: Joe Blanton (6-12) 4.94 ERA
Pirates: Paul Maholm (7-7) 3.95 ERA
Gametime: 7:05 p.m. EST
Weather: 77, partly cloudy
Lineup: Rollins/Victorino/Utley/Howard/Burrell/Werth/Coste/Bruntlett/Blanton

Your gameday beer: In honor the Phillies cross-state rivals, tonight we’re serving up some Iron City Brew. The beer has been made since 1861, but it is know for being one of the first beers to be available in an aluminum bottle - apparently that keeps the beer cold 50 minutes longer than a can. Like Bud, Iron City is best served ice cold, have it with kielbasa.
Go Phillies!

Blanton allowed 1 fucking hit and we cant win. But when Kyle “Luckyman” Kendrick allows a couple runs we still manage to win. the question on everyones minds is WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THE OFFENSE. and is jimmy rollins halfdead?

Right Eli, and the ones that do have internet access are often way too busy trolling the net for porn to bother posting on an opposing team’s blog

Yeah, cna Kendrick pitch every night? Kendrick could let up 12 runs every agme and we’d still win somehow.

And look at the series Monday-Thursday in LA, there’s a sure 1-3 series. This team will be in third a week from tonight. 2 or 3 out at least.

The offense doesn’t scores run without the homerun.
We probably are among the league leaders in LEAST amount of runs scored not including the homerun ball.

The thing is though we are so down on this team. They will fall behind and then somehow miracously come back into first place within the next two weeks. This team is so hot and cold its amazing.

Opposing pitchers have to get psyched going up against this team. We must just inspire confidence in them.

Maybe they can’t play in 1st place. They can’t handle that pressure. They like to chase. What a sad excuse.

Hey look at me. I have a 6.49 ERA and I shut out the Phillies. They’re the best offense in baseball. I must actually be good.

I am addicted to philadelphia sports. I admit it. But I hate it. And I hate this team. I hate it so much.
I have so much good stuff happening in my life… I’m a productive member of society who is about to graduate college.
Why do I RUIN my nights watching this scumbag team?
I need help.

utley looks physically ill, has for a while now, I would swear he’s got a painkiller problem, pale skin, weight loss, looks out of it.

All i have to say is. how the FUCK are the marlins still playing competitivly..like quite honestly they have shit-slingers compared to the phillies “allstars” and remain 2-3 games behind us the entire season. what the hell

I just want to cancel my mlb.tv subscription and check myself into rehab. And I don’t drink or use drugs. I think I’d fit in though!

Hamels lost this one for us. He sucks so bad. Blanton lost it too. Maybe if they pitched better we woulda won.

If the Mets and Marlins split the next 2, we win the next 2 we will be back up 2 and 2.5.
If they don’t beat Snell tomorrow, I am on the not-watching-this-team bandwagon however.
Can we? Will we?

Eli, because the Marlins have timely hitting and because Hanley Ramirez is in their lineup.

We won’t beat Snell. Myers will probably throw 8 scoreless too. We WILL NOT beat Snell. We suck too bad.

The good news is, Charlie Manual can’t manage this team forever. I am 25 and he will die or be fired before I will die, hopefully.
Please God.

The Packers should have traded Favre to the Phillies. I bet he could bat clean up in our shitty ass line up.

Maybe that will inspire some change rather than just BULLSHIT Manual lip service “Well, ah, yeah, ah, we, gotta, a, get on a roll, ah, ah….”

I’ve had Phila. sports addiction for over 30 years now, no matter how many times your heart gets broken, you say you’ll stop watching, but you never will, cause the Flyers, Eagles, Phils are always just a player or two away from winning it all, so you just keep getting sucked back in.

I agree with Mitch. This is a good pitching staff. The line up is an awful line up.

I live 90 minutes from Tampa. I’m gonna look into hypnotherapy to become a Rays fan. Do you guys think this is possible?

Goergie, it’s like the owners are the ultimate drug dealers. Always so close to achieving that maximum high, but you just cannot quite get there..

I hope someone steps up to the reporters tonight and simply says: we suck. We are not getting it done and something has to change. Instead of the shitty Rollins : we’re fine bullshit.
Just take some accountability – and I mean someone other than Manuel. Utley, Howard standup and admit your worthless pieces of shit tonight. You’re making 20 million and you can’t even come up with ONE clutch hit.

My hubby is an Orioles fan and he says I should be happy that my team is at least in contention most years-I say who won a WS more recently?

What’s amazing about this band of pretenders (Phillies) is that they’re still in 1st place. What a joke! They make so many mediocre pitchers look like Gibson or Koufax. I’m sick of hearing Wheeler give credit to opposing hurlers who’ve had little success in the majors. The problem is this team lives and dies on the long ball. They simply cannot manufacture runs. This is the most under-achieving line-up in baseball by far. It has been so hard for me to watch this team all season. What happened to Utley’s MVP season? Can anybody hit in the clutch? Perhaps the coaching staff on this team needs to be evaluated, especially Thompson. Are these hitters THAT clueless?! Manny would look damn good in this line-up. Oops I’m sorry. Guess we didn’t need him, right?

Jimmy Rollins has a parasite and is slowly detoriating.
Utley is addicted to painkillers, Victrino is still adapting to America, Howard just dumb and Burrells happen to get re-signed. So much for the heart of our lineup bunch of fucking underacheivers

Utley got crushed under the pressure of being the man. That’s it man… It takes a lot to handle that. Plus, his painkiller addiction doesn’t help matters.

I think someone needs to advise Charlie ythat you don’t bring in Adam Eaton the 2nd(Waldron) in to blow the game. I also think Ruiz needs to be sent back to double AA and bring up Jaramillo.

I hope Manual sits as many regulars as possible tomorrow.. Sit Burrell, Utley, Howard, Rollins, and both catchers. Just have no catcher out there tomorrow. Have Myers throw directly into the umpires chest. That will send a message.

Someone on this team needs to go back to that lockerroom and raise royal hell-throw shit around, maybe call players out-SOMETHING-they are not this bad. Don’t they have any pride-for Christ’s sake-they play a freakin game for a living, make millions doing it, and half of them look bored! Give me a break!!
