Gordon Starts Rehab In Clearwater (0.2 IP, 2 ER)

Tom Gordon allowed two runs on a hit (home run) and a walk in 0.2 innings Sunday for A+ Clearwater against the Dunedin Blue Jays.

It was Gordon’s first pitching in a month. He is expected to throw again either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Honestly, Gordon is of no great importance to me. He wasn’t completely effective this season anyway, so to have him back healthy would be nice, but not necessary. I’m hoping the Phils will figure out how to work out their thinned bullpen from other options.

Our bullpen was a little shaky last night after Myers pitch great, 6IP only 64 pitches. To get Gordon back would only ha.mper our bullpen. Why doesn’t Charlie use happ a little more and quit waiting on Gordon to come back

Taking bets on who’s ERA will be higher in Single A ball: Eaton or Gordon!

I vote for “other options.” Gordon on the hill scares me.

C’mon, you can’t even put Gordon and Eaton in the same sentence. Gordon was once fire and has given us some good performances. Eaton has been garbage his entire career.

Nice river327… Made me laugh. Gordon’s first rehab appearance doesn’t mean anything considering his velocity is nowhere near game ready so lets not comment untill the 3rd or 4th outing.

Never quite understood the venom towards Gordon. The guy hasn’t pitched well this year, but he is a class act, has pitched quite well for the Phils in the past, and has gutted it out when he has been hurt.

But with that said, I think it’s getting to be that time where he might need to hang them up…

The last time Tom Gordon earned his salary was 2005.

i don’t hate gordon, but i am not a fan. i think he should have received a 2 year contract from us originally, and if he did, he would be someone else’s burden right now. i don’t count on him to come back strong, basically i don’t count on him at all. the less we use him the better. he should probably be used as condrey is used at this point in his career.

i’d take gordon over anybody in the mets bullpen.

Does anyone remember how awesome Gordon was down the stretch last year? I sure do, and that was after being horrible all year and being on the DL most of the year. If he can repeat that then that would be awesome.

Tom Gordon is better than Condrey and Seanez. I agree with the people that said he takes the ball and never complains. Charlie abused him last year but he didn’t say a word. He’s a class act and we could use him.

    2006 3.34ERA 1.26WHIP and 34 saves
last year he was good down the stretch, why all the hatred?

This is Tom Gordons last year, obviously, and i hope he can turn in a few more good performances when called upon.

gordon had that one huge pitch against beltran down the stretch last year, up at shea. guys on, 3-2 count he pulled out the best pitch he’s thrown in a phillies uniform seemingly out of nowhere for the strikeout en route to a 3-2 phillies win. the gordon era hasn’t been all bad.

The only thing that comes to mind when i see Gordon is the walk-off grand slam he gave up to Dan Uggla…He has had good games for the Phils, but he’s old and needs to retire he’s not Jamie Moyer.

i dont have a problem with gordon. probably shouldve retired this year, but hes a tough guy who commands respect and he should be allowed to gut it out and finish out the year as long as he doesnt hurt the team too much.

True story. Duaner Sanchez makes Flash look like Dennis Eckersley out there. Scott Schoenweis makes Duaner Sanchez look like Lee Smith and lastly, Billy Wagner looks like a pile of shit

Gordon is a class-act. He’s never said anything about the fans booing him when he doesn’t perform. He just takes it as it comes and knows that if he doesn’t perform the fans won’t be happy. A lot of pitchers can’t take it and vent to the press. Flash hasn’t ever that I remember.

He just does his job the best he can and I respect that! I agree he’ll probably hang them up after this year and he’s had a hell of a career. When he’s on, his curve ball is still nasty!

Let’s hope for a superb final 2.5 months from Flash! We can use him the way Madson has been pitching!

Gordon does have 5 wins and 2 saves this season and the Phillies are thankful for that or they wouldn’t be in first place at this moment.

Paul & Griffin~ Casual fans in general are a fickle lot and are quick to condemn without thought for Gordon’s past contributions and his season long health issue (torn labrum).

nobody is attacking gordon’s personality, clearly he is a class act. he has been used and abused, and never complained. i think i speak for most people on here when i say i don’t trust him on the mound, although i believe he is better than seanez and condrey combined.

griffin, when you pointed out gordon’s 2006 stats you left out a 3-4 record and the fact that he was totally dreadful at the end of that year. i believe something like 25 of his saves came before the all star break in 2006.
