Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post wrote about the implications of the Marlins’ week ahead, a series with the Phillies, then a series with the Mets, both on the road.
Scott Olsen said these are huge games for the Fish:
“It’s pretty big, there’s no denying that. We’ve got a chance to make a statement. We’ve got a chance to take the lead in the division. We’ve got a chance to fall back in the division. A lot of things can happen.”
For the Marlins, these six are huge statement games. They can either take first place in the East, remain close to first place or drop out almost completely in these next six. A 6-0 trip would assure them first place, while an 0-6 would drop them at least 5.5 games in back of the Phils.
By now we have to believe the Fish will be in it down the stretch with the Phils. But if the Phils can pull off the sweep at home, it may very well dig the Marlins a hole too large for them to climb out from.

Since they both have similar teams.. both love to hit the longball… and both only go as far as their starting pitching takes them that particular night.. I look at this series to go 2-1.. either team getting a sweep here would be shocking to me. Since the Phillies are at home, and have the better bullpen, I expect that the Phillies win 2-of-3 here… should be some pretty good games to see in person.

There’s no doubt that the Phillies are the best team in all of sports. It sucks that I’m in my mid-20s and have never seen them win a World Series, and that the last time they made the World Series I was still in elementary school. I went to the game a week or so ago when the Phillies lost to the Braves, or the Cowards as I like to call them…even though I booed the Phillies all throughout the game because they sucked, I know I’m a good Phan because I think the Phillies are better than anybody and I bully the opposition’s fans. The way I see it, they deserve to be made fun of because they’re so stupid not to see that the Phillies rule. I believe Phillie fans are the only baseball fans who can add and spell, everyone else can go to hell!

Amen. At least we agree that Phillies fans are better then all those Mets nerds that create unfunny, unoriginal names and come on this site to post comments, because metsblog is a terrible website.

metsblog is terrible, you’re right. even though i’ve never visited ( because of fear of catching AIDS or something ), it has to be terrible by default because it’s associated with the mets. let’s create a mutsblog.com and do nothing but trash the muts and they’re dumb fans. that’s definitely a great way to spend free time!

This series is huge….but I’m pretty confident that we’ll take at least two of three. But in other news…..Wagner is headed to the DL and in comes the Muts closer by committee that worked so well for them against us….

Once the Marlins are done with us and the Mets, they have the Cards and Cubs coming into town. Rough stretch.

You’ve got to give the Marlins ball club a hellava lot of credit. For what looked a glorified AAA team at the start of the season they’ve somehow managed to remain in contention for two thirds of the season.
That being said however i hope we sweep them this week.
