Marlins Stumble Over Kendrick In 5-0 Shutout

Call it a reversal of last night.
The offense picked it up, getting off the ground early and helping Kyle Kendrick pace his way to his 10th win of the season as the Phillies shut out the Marlins, 5-0. The win put the Phillies back up by 2.5 games over the Marlins, and kept the Mets (losers against the Padres) three games back.
Let’s start with Kendrick. He walked five and gave up four hits in six innings, so you’d think the Fish would’ve punched a couple runs across the plate. Nope. The Kid kept his poise and was clutch with runners in scoring position. Want to know his stats with runners in scoring position?
RISP (144 situations): .238 AVG / .310 OBP / .349 SLG / 73 OPS+
RISP + 2 outs (73 situations): .190 AVG / .301 OBP / .206 SLG / 40 OPS+
These numbers are pretty much in line with his 2007 numbers. Among the league, Kendrick is tied for fourth in baseball in innings pitched with RISP + 2 outs (17.1), and hitters’ .508 OPS in those situations compares most favorably with Brandon Webb (.472) and Roy Halladay (.461).
So Kendrick got into trouble but bailed himself out every time. After his six, Chad “Dim the Lights” Durbin pitched two scoreless innings, and Ryan Madson finished it off with a quick ninth. Hopefully the two frames won’t cost Durbin any work tomorrow, but at least JC Romero and Brad Lidge stayed out of work.
Ryan Howard had a nice game, swatting his 32nd home run in the third inning to give the Phils a 4-0 lead. He came close to homering twice more, doubling once and flying out the other time. His average, once below .200, is now at a semi-respectable (for him) .244. Chase Utley added an RBI double in the first inning, and in the second inning, small ball produced two more. An Eric Bruntlett single (he went 2-for-3, breaking a tough 2-for-22 slump) brought home Geoff Jenkins, and a Kendrick squibber brought home Chris Coste, who doubled.
The Phils added one more in the sixth via a Mike Cervenak RBI single. It was Cervenak’s first Major League hit (1-for-3) and RBI. A big congratulations to the 31-year-old who spent most of four years toiling away in Norwich, Connecticut, a place I know very well.
Top to bottom, this was a good win. Nice hitting, a homer by the big man, clutch pitching and another shutdown effort by the ‘pen. The rubber game is set up.

Kyle Kendrick wears shamrock boxers and a rabbits foot around his neck… dude always seems to get more offense behind him than anyone else.. and SOMEHOW didn’t allow runners to score eventhough guys were on all night..
How about that defense by Rollins and Bruntlett last night. Bruntlett is the best player ever (…of all the guys that are currently named Bruntlett on the Phillies roster).

Bruntlett is the ideal defensive replacement/utility type guy. I don’t wnat him to pinch hit in clutch situations, but I want him to come in and play a position if a player is hurt because you know he’ll be able to play it. I bet he could catch too.

kendrick is one of those guys, sort of like moyer, that hypnotizes people. thats the only way moyer gets people out is through esoteric hypnosis.

She often falls asleep in movies.. and doesn’t like anything with too much stuff blowing up or creepy or anything.. so we usually only go see comedies in the theatre…
BUT… when we got the house, I bought a 37″ Olevia 1080i HD TV… so my home movie watching is kick ass now.. Haven’t had too much free time, but watched “300″ and “WAR OF THE WORLDS” recently…
Comcast HD blows though, it always pixelates(?) when I have the Phillies on high-def, so usually I just watch them on the standard-def channel 9… pretty gay

Can it all be attributed to luck? I mean he just wins games.
I would be curious to see what each of their SP’s run support has been. I’m sure you’re right that KK has had the most and Cole undoubtedly has to have had the worst. I’m too lazy to look it up though.

don, the pixelating(?) problems can be attributed to your tv and/or hdmi cords.

I want to see it again. Maybe I’ll go see it after Pineapple Express this weekend. I’ll do what I did in high school, and sneak into the other movie. I called it the double feature back then. I have a 32″ polaroid. It was $400. I love that TV.

Anyone know of any companies in the Philly area looking for EEs? I want to get the hell out of MA and get down there. I miss the shore and this commute to fulfill my 6-pack is getting old.

I just have the cords that came with the cablebox… so its worth it to go buy some legit cables at best buy or circuit city or whatever?
When its not pixelating, the picture is GREAT.
I bought it at Target, got it for like $700… which for a TV that size and with 1080i is pretty good… and it was ranked like #2 by consumer reports best “non-major brand” TV. One of my buddies has a 37″ Vizio thats pretty nice too..
We got my dad a 50″ Panasonic Plasma for Xmas.. and my fiances family has TWO 50″ Sony rear-prjection somethings.. (I must be marrying into money)… from what I can tell, they all have great pictures.. im sure if you had all the TVs side-by-side, you would have a favorite.. but its tough to go wrong on a tv now

phil, with all the pot smoking you do, shouldn’t you be watching the price is right or something?
FACT: only 2 types of people watch the price is right. the elderly and stoners.

You can probably get a really cheap place around 16th and Bainbridge for relatively cheap. It would be about a 10 minute walk to patco from there.

yeah i work in camden.
the only reason i dont care that im living at home (moved back from pittsburgh not too long ago, workin in jerz, i had to wait for a few more friends to move back home from living in japan, now were working on getting a place to get out of burbs), the only reason it doesnt bother me is because my parents go away every weekend and they bought a 54″ samsung full hd. totally, ridiculous, absurd, unnecessarily large tv….but its awesome.

I hate the price is right. I’m a functioning stoner. I have a job and go to college. I don’t watch mindless television programming like the price is right when I’m high.

Absolutely. How much are you looking to spend? How many rooms will you need? I can help you out if you want. I’ve lived in almost every neighborhood in this city over the course of the past 6 years.

Don – check out monoprice.com. High-quality cables for little $$. I have the 3992 1.3a HDMI cables (6′) and don’t have any problems. If you spend anymore than $20 on an HDMI cable, you’re wasting your money. The most important thing is that your digital cables have Ferrite Beads. The 3992 cable is something like $4.50 and $3.50 S&H. For $8 your getting a well constructed and well shielded cable.
I know what I’m talking about since I am an EE and somewhat of a subject matter expert when it comes to noise prevention/elimination concerning high-speed digital signals.

career builder is better than monster. so is job circle. job circle always sponsors good career fairs. career builder gets you more and better interviews than monster does.
i got tipped to this job opening by my uncle though, but i was looking for work for like a year. there was nothing in pittsburgh at all, so i had to move back here and i got a job like immediately. i finished grad school in december and found nothing for the rest of my lease until august last year. moved back, boom, immediate job.

when you buy a ps3 dont buy the ps3 hdmi cable. they are all the same. you can get them at walmart for 20 bucks.
tiger direct.com is the hottest place for electronics and tech-related stuff online. great deals.

starting off with 2 people. but id rathewr involve one more if we can find someone or convince the third to go in on it. 3 bedrooms is ideal because i think youre getting the best value their if you get a nice place.

I use pricewatch.com for computer stuff. They follow every other computer site and find the cheapest for you. 50% come from newegg.com though.

What’s the price range of the 3 of you?

with 3 people, 1500 a month is doable. there are more places in that range than cheaper places. with 2 people, 1200 a month is doable but still a little rough. so id prefer to wait it out for 3 people.

yeah geoff, to save money you gotta roll 3 deep. 2 people is still pricey.
these guys are jerks but they have decent prices, jmhrealty.com (art museum area)

Its not all the time.. which makes me think its the box itself, or just another example of how comcast sucks balls…. sometimes its crystal clear.. like some of those things on Discovery or National Geographic and stuff are amazing to watch… i tend to have more problems with CSNhd.. but maybe just cause i watch that the most ..?

you want a modern, nice place. rolling 3 deep is the preferred way to go because you can afford a pretty nice place then wihtout too much strain on each person.
