Bruce, I was referring to the runs they scored in games over the last week. I’m a realist – I know teams do not score an average of 8 or 9 runs a game – I was insinuating that I’d like to see the same offense that produced 7 runs, 8 runs, and 9 runs, respectively in the past week, do it again over the next few games.

Any team that scores 5+ runs should have a chance to win…

643 runs/ 133 games = 4.849 per game for our Phillies, and with a Team ERA of 3.86 …. we’re pretty solid. 4th in the NL in both catergories.

East:
Mets = 660 runs, 4.01 ERA
Marlins = 617 runs, 4.47 ERA

Central:
Cubs = 729 runs, 3.75 ERA
Brewers = 635 runs, 3.85 ERA
Cardinals = 652 runs, 4.17 ERA (with Dave Duncan as pitching coach)

West:
DBacks = 612 runs, 3.97 ERA
Dodgers = 546 runs, 3.73 ERA (best ERA in NL, 3rd overall behind Jays, and Rays)

Since when in real baseball life (although there are some here prefer this to be a baseball fantasy blog where one can “blow” up the team willy nilly..chuckle) the Phillies or any team for that matter can consistently score that many runs?

We need Hamels, Myers, and Blanton to come up with big performances against the Cubbies this week. More importantly, we need the offense to revert to their 7, 8, and 9 runs per game.

There is a video on ESPN.com or something that followed Brandon Webb around between starts.. I think he threw a bullpen session 2 days before his start, but they had an OFF-day in between.. so I don’t know if they try to to it a certain number of days AFTER they last pitch to recover… or if they do it a certain number of days BEFORE they start again to prepare.. sombody call Rich Dubee, Geoff’s boy..

End of discussion.” If you read carefully, certain posters (including yours truly) are questioning the wisdom of Charlie Manuel’s decisions in that faithful 8th inning of last night’s game. So it may be “end of discussion” for you but not for us. Personally, I asked.. 1) Why Seanez was not instructed to avoid pitching (don’t throw strikes) to Delgado?.. or 2) why Lidge didn’t come in and face Delgado for a 4-out “save” attempt? After all, Manuel made the move one batter TOO late.

which starter would have been throwing their bullpen session yesterday hamels or blanton…he could have used one of them to pitch preferably hamels but i think he would have thrown yesterday…good managers in playoff races do this often

Looks like Ryan Dempster is pretty tough ,15-5 and a 2.85 ERA in The Cubs Bandbox (only kidding ).He has had ok years with Fla in 00 and 01
But just woke up again this year with the Cubs..
